Evangelist Daniel King (00:00):
The devotion that I want to talk about is how to take a city for God. I’ve gone to many different cities around the world and we do big evangelistic events, and our goal is to take the city for the kingdom of God. The city I want to talk about is the city of Jerusalem. Jerusalem is very significant. It is the capital of three different major religions. The Jews claim it, the Christians claim it, and Islam claims it. And so Jerusalem is known all over the world. But what made Jerusalem famous, it’s not a port city. Usually the famous cities of ancient times were port cities where the ships would come bringing goods. It’s not on a river, it’s up in the mountains. It’s hard to get to. So what made it famous? The thing that made Jerusalem famous was King David decided to make Jerusalem the capital of his kingdom when he decided that he didn’t own it.

(01:17):
It was known as the city of Jab bbis, and it was owned by the Jbu, the Jebusites. And so how did King David come to own the city of Jab bbis? The story is found in two Samuel chapter five, verses six through nine, it says, and the king and his man went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David saying, you shall not come in here, but the blind in the lame will repel you, thinking David cannot come in here. Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion. That is the city of David. Now, David said on that day, whoever climbs up by the way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites, the lame, the blind who are hated by David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Therefore, they say the blind in the lame shall not come into the house.

(02:21):
Then David dwelt in the stronghold and called it the city of David. And David built all around from that region inward. So the city of Jab bbis was on top of a mountain. It was surrounded by high walls of stone. There were large wooden gates that guarded the only entrance to the city. When David and his men arrived, the gates were slammed shut, and it was impossible for anyone to enter the city. The men of jab were extremely confident. The Jebusites felt safe. They were hidden behind their eye walls of stone, and they began to make fun of David. They stood high on the walls and they shouted down, you cannot enter here. They said, even if the only soldiers in the city were deaf and lame and blind, you would not be able to enter. And so they’re taunting them from the walls. I don’t know if you remember the Monty Python in the search for the Holy Grail. There’s a group of French soldiers on top of a wall, and they’re making fun of the knights who come. You remember that scene? I don’t remember what they said, but it was funny at the time. Does anyone remember to quote it? You know what they say? You are a monkey. You are so smelly.

(03:55):
I mean, that’s what the Jebusites were doing. They were standing on the wall saying, oh, you can never take our city. It’s impossible for you. You are so stupid. We are here in the city. Even if every one of our soldiers was dumb and deaf and blind, you would not be able to take the city. But somehow, perhaps through a spy, David heard about another way of entering the city. It was a tiny water shaft that extended from the valley all the way up the mountain and came out in the middle of the city of jab bbis. And so here was a flaw in the city’s defenses, a tiny chink in its impenetrable armor. And David said, I am tired of these heathens making fun of me in saying that even the blind in the lame could defeat me. And so David gathered his men together and he promised who whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites, he shall be chief and captain.

(05:16):
And so for many years when I read this passage, I thought of a water shaft with fresh water going down to a well. And I had this picture of a soldier climbing up with his sword strapped to his back and his shield. And as he climbs, there’s a little bit of moss on the wall and the water is splashing in his face, but he manages to climb all the way up this water shaft, and he comes out at the top in the middle of the night, pulls out his sword, and begins slashing and takes the city. That’s kind of the picture I always had of this story. But as I studied this passage, I discovered that there are several commentaries that suggest that my picture of old fresh water well is not entirely accurate. Instead of being fresh water, it’s possible that this water shaft was actually a sewer.

(06:21):
And that’s why the Jebusites thought that it was impossible for anyone to climb up this water shaft. What’s in a sewer? It’s full of trash. It’s full of bones from dead animals, it’s full of feces. It stinks to high heaven. It’s full of rats flies and creepy crawly bugs. Climbing the water shaft would require more than just physical strength. It would also require a strong stomach and a stopped up nose. And so never in their wildest dreams did the Jebusites imagine that someone would climb up the sewer, who would push their way through the trash and waste altogether in a cramped up space. They didn’t imagine that it would be possible for anyone to attack the city through this sewer shaft. And so imagine the slime. Imagine the smell climbing this shaft would make you want to gag, and it would make you feel like you’re going to throw up.

(07:36):
By the time you reach the top, you would not be in the mood to fight a battle. Your sword handle would be slick in your hand. This attack was not a picnic, but sometimes in order to take a city for God, you have to go through waste. I don’t want to be too crass, but what would you call it? I mean, it’s waste feces, poo dung shit, kaka, stinky. It doesn’t matter what words you use, the reality is foul. And so David was surrounded by mighty men, but this mission required someone who was exceptional to lead. Usually climbing through the sewage is not heroic. It’s a job for a trash man. So who would step up to take the lead? Who would lead David’s men? Who would win the award that David was offering to the person who could take this risky climb? In 1 Chronicles 11:4-6, we find the name of the chief who volunteered for the job.

(08:59):
His name was Joab. And so Joab lifted his hand and he said, I will be the one to climb up this sewage shaft. I will be the one that will go first in the city. And he grabbed some of the other mighty men of David, and he grabbed and said, come on guys. We can do this. We can work together. We can get up there and we can take this city. And so Joab was a hero. And because he was the one who ascended the shaft later, David appoints him as the leader of all of his armies. And so taking a city for God requires heroes. It’s not easy. It’s not a stroll through the tulips. It’s not just a walk in the sunshine. Coming to a city like Ganja, dika requires sacrifice. Sometimes it’s hot. Sometimes when you take a city, it’s cold. Sometimes you have to take a cold shower out of a bucket. Sometimes it’s smelly. Sometimes you have to use an outhouse. Sometimes the road is bumpy. Sometimes there are mosquitoes. Sometimes you have to leave your wife and children at home for long periods of time. Sometimes there’s conflict. Sometimes there’s not enough money, and you have to bargain for everything.

(10:53):
Sometimes you have to sleep on a hard bed or even a hard floor. My bed over in Muji Maya, it was a nice room, but the bed had slates in it. It was very uncomfortable. Sometimes you’re sick. Sometimes you have to go for a long period without eating food. Sometimes you’re thirsty. Sometimes you have a gun pointed at you. I’ve had that happen to me in a couple of different countries in Pakistan. One time we were shot at. But in order to take a city, you have to be willing to go through dumb. Taking a city requires hard work in sacrifice, but the man or the woman

(11:49):
Who is willing to make the sacrifice to take a city will receive a great reward. And so I want to tell you today that each one of you are heroes. Some of you have been coming with C fan for many, many years, and that’s one of the greatest things about Christ for all nations is the years of dedication that people have given to it. And it’s not easy. When you read Reinhard Bonnke’s autobiography, there have been sacrifices, even people that have died. If you listen to Brother Winnie, he tells the stories of traveling across parts of Africa and some of the adventures he’s gone on would make a great blockbuster movie. It’s not been easy what CA has done, but that is what is required in order to take a city for God. It’s required your sacrifice to take ganja dika.

(12:56):
And for that, you are a hero. And I want to say thank you to each one of you for your sacrifice, for the effort you put into this, and not just this one. Some of you were here last week. Some of you are going to be here next week. We’re going to go from this city. We’re going to take the next city. We’re going to take all of Congo for Jesus. We’re going to take all of Africa for Jesus from Cape Town to Cairo. Do you know how audacious it is to say we’re going to take 50 cities in one year for Jesus? Never been done before, never even been attempted. But 50 different decap events. I mean, this is historic, but what are we doing? We are taking cities for Jesus Christ and we couldn’t do it without you. And so thank you. Let’s pray together.

(13:45):
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to say thank you for the heroes who are in this room. Thank you for their sacrifice. Thank you for the effort that they put into ganja and into Congo and into the other cities where crusades are happening. And Lord, I pray that because of them being willing to go through the challenges of operating in a nation like Congo, Lord, I pray that you would give them a great reward that just like Joab became the captain of all of David’s armies, he received a great reward. Lord, I pray that you would reward each one of my friends, my brothers, every staff member that’s here. Lord, I pray that they would receive a great reward. The type of reward that only comes through you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Welcome to the Evangelism Podcast. I’m Daniel King and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus. Today I have a very special guest with me from Australia, all the way from down under Dr. Tina Waldrom. Thank you for being on the Evangelism podcast.

Tina Waldrom (00:18):
Thanks Daniel. It’s a great pleasure to be on your show.

Evangelist Daniel King (00:22):
Alright, we have just finished recording an interview for your podcast, which is called the Win-Win Evangelism Podcast. Tell me about how you got started doing an evangelism podcast.

Tina Waldrom (00:39):
Evangel. That is a great question. Well, before the Evangelism podcast was almost three decades of evangelism ministry. So I’ve worked with local churches and evangelistic organizations and then I kind of had stepped out to start my own organization as such evangelism in Australia. And one of the things that I felt the Lord speaking to us about was a podcast. And I’ve got to say, Daniel, I’ve never been a person that listened to podcasts up until that stage. And I was like, what on earth is this and how do I go about communicating through that medium? So that’s how it came about with the attempt to do the same as I’ve always done, try to equip the everyday believer to share their faith with the world around them. So yeah, had to learn the whole craft. And now we’re three years in weekly podcast. Absolutely love it.

Evangelist Daniel King (01:39):
Now, if you listen to my Evangelism podcast, I encourage you to go and subscribe to Dr. Tina’s Evangelism podcast because if you like mine, I know you’re going to like hers. We have the same heart for evangelism now you are in Australia and your focus is on training the body of Christ on how to share their faith. And so talk to me a little bit about the spiritual atmosphere in Australia and why you feel it’s so important to equip the church in Australia in evangelism.

Tina Waldrom (02:22):
Yeah, that’s a great question. I think like most Western worlds, a lot of people, the majority of people statistics show us in Australia are not interested in attending church. It’s pretty hard trying to get your regular secular Aussie into church, Daniel. And so my question is always, well, how do we move the church into the community? It’s a very biblical illiterate society that we live in now. How do we get the church there and how do we win the most people to Jesus? How do we get the most people to hear about Jesus? The answer for me is to equip every person that follows Jesus and to give them ways that are natural. And could I say easy? Because if Jesus said go and make disciples, he must have thought that everybody could do that. So trying to uncomplicated it, trying to make it a way that people can see this is doable.

(03:35):
Jesus thought this was doable, and so give them the skills to do that. So yeah, that’s the climate. And pretty much in Australia also Daniel, we have what’s called the tall poppy syndrome, whereas if someone’s really good at something, the Australian culture wants to pull those people down. We want everybody on the same level and we want everyone to feel like you are my mate, you’re my mate, my friend. So talk to me like that. Don’t talk down to me. Don’t come across superior in any way. So we like to have those discussions about how we can do that, how we can land it best in the Australian culture.

Evangelist Daniel King (04:13):
Now, I was looking at your website, it’s found@evangelisminaustralia.com, and you have a variety of resources there. Tell me a little bit about what people can find on your website and how you train people in evangelism and how you coach people who have a heart for evangelism.

Tina Waldrom (04:38):
Yeah, so basically our podcast is a fantastic free gift for people weekly. They can hear amazing interviews exactly like your podcast, and we are trying to ground it to the everyday believer all the time of how they can share their faith. But also we have online courses. So our most, well-known course on mission with god.com is a course that has four modules that people can go through basically to share their faith. And there’s a free sample for that course. In fact, you can go to on mission with god.com/free sample and you can see how it looks, the platform that the learning is on, so to speak. So yeah, brilliant stuff. And it’s all outlined there for you about what you can learn, but we certainly can make it easier for you. We can make it doable. We can give you tips that you go, oh yeah, absolutely, I can do that. So very relational, very personable in the approach. Yeah, thank you for asking.

Evangelist Daniel King (05:41):
Now, you have been involved in evangelism for many years now, but how did you first get started? How did you first develop this passion for evangelism?

Tina Waldrom (05:56):
Another great question. I met Jesus in the United States of all places. I’m actually call myself a missionary to Australia. I met Jesus in California in San Diego in 1992, and I went to church as much as I could go. It was such a game changer for me to realize that God was real, such an incredible blessing. And on a Sunday night, I would go to this church in Mira Mesa and the pastor did this series on evangelism, and he started talking about this thing in the Bible called an evangelist, which was all new to me. And as he was talking about that for a number of weeks, I just knew that I knew Daniel, that God had called me to be this thing, like share Jesus with other people and equip people to do that. I just knew that I wanted to do it in a certain way. So that’s really how it all came about. And in hindsight, you see that as the calling of God. I didn’t really know that then, but then I just walked that out and I’m just passionate. Every day I’ll wake up just thinking, oh, how can I equip someone to share their faith? How can I share my faith? So yeah, just love it. I’ve been arrested by the Holy Spirit.

Evangelist Daniel King (07:24):
Now, I noticed that you completed your doctorate of ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary, which is a great seminary there in California. Tell me a little bit about your dissertation or the project you did to graduate, and what did you learn about evangelism through that process?

Tina Waldrom (07:49):
Yeah, so that was a hard one. I really had to work through what specifically could I write about, it needed to be practical. I ended up doing a lot of research around my area of the church that I attend and how we can best engage with society. But then I articulated that into how do we reach people that are spiritual, but not so much wanting to know about Christianity but wanting a spiritual conversation. And so I love interior design and interior decorating. So I came up with a course so to speak, that people would go to over five or six weeks, they travel around to beautifully styled homes. It was really pitched at women. Not to say that guys aren’t into this, but women, some of us just love it. And you would go to different homes and you would go to a space in the home.

(08:42):
Let’s take the kitchen. And you’d talk about, I would have a stylist there talking about how you style a kitchen, how do you design a kitchen? But then I would talk about the angle of the kitchen is the heart of the home. And so I would have a spiritual teaching on the heart and heart issues to engage with these pre believes, let’s call them that would be there. And so I just loved every bit of it because so many people are interested in a spiritual conversation, not so much the Christian conversation. So putting the tools there for that space of the journey that they’re into. Then there was other areas of the home also. So yeah, that’s what I wrote on. I loved it. Love fuller, love it, love it, love it.

Evangelist Daniel King (09:28):
Now let’s say that a pastor heard about you and called you and said, Dr. Tina, I want my congregation to be better at sharing their faith and to have a heart for evangelism. What would you go and offer that church and tell that congregation that would help them to reach people for Jesus?

Tina Waldrom (09:53):
Yeah. Well, I don’t think it’s not information that you wouldn’t share or I wouldn’t share. And over the years I’ve learned that sometimes we can go in to congregations or you can say to a pastor years they’ll come and do something for a weekend. Actually, the real life change is when it’s consistent. So it’s more like, let’s not do an evangelism seminar, but let’s plan out maybe a six month or yearly plan where people are consistently getting resource and encouragement to share their faith. I think it was Bill Hybels years ago that said, every church has a high value of evangelism, but it’s actually, it’s not actualized, it’s not outworked. Of course, we all want to have encouraged people to evangelism, but we don’t get them to do that because they lose heart or they’re not receiving that consistent encouragement. So it’s more about putting weekly things in throughout a year or over the years that keeps that value outworked highly all the time rather than a, so that’s the conversation. That’s the conversation really. That’s the baseline, I would say. Yeah.

Evangelist Daniel King (11:17):
Talk to me a little bit more about Australia. What are some of the unique challenges and opportunities for reaching people in Australia?

Tina Waldrom (11:31):
Yeah, great question. So what are the challenges? Well, one of them, what I said to you, Aussies, just don’t give a rip about church, to be quite honest. And so the challenge is like never before, how do we get the church into the community? I actually think that Covid gave us some great insight to what God is doing in our nation. We saw the church become highly engaged with the community and pastors everywhere that I was talking to were so excited. They were saying, oh, our people are totally engaged in the community all the time, months and months ago on Melbourne, where I live was the most locked down city in the world. So we were locked down forever and couldn’t do anything. I saw it as a blessing and was praising Jesus in the right way. Of course, it was tragic, but the church continued to, because they couldn’t go into the four walls of the church, they stayed outside in their communities and they reached people for Jesus.

(12:29):
So the challenge is now, I believe Daniel, is that our churches are back open, that we can slip back into that about I love churches, but we’ve got to continue to keep the focus into the community. We’ve got to encourage that going forward. So that’s the challenge and the opportunity to be quite frank, is that there are great opportunities out there. If people are up for a conversation, people are up for a spiritual conversation. It’s not that people don’t want to talk about spiritual things anymore. It’s wide open in my country. So it’s more the upskilling of the everyday person to be able to share their faith in ways that can connect with the Australian society or ways that connect with the United States culture there or wherever you are. But in Western society, there’s definitely an openness never before.

Evangelist Daniel King (13:27):
So how do you start a conversation with someone who says, I don’t care about church. I’m not religious, but I want to be a spiritual person. How would you start that conversation?

Tina Waldrom (13:41):
Yeah, so I love sharing my experience, but I love sharing it in a way that provokes a question. So I don’t want to impose my experience. I want to share my experience and ask people to engage with it. So I’ll share an experience that, oh my gosh, I had all these coincidences happen in my life and my worldview actually is a Christian worldview, and I’m convinced that this is God moving. I’m convinced that he is real and really alive. And then I would just ask the question, what’s your own thoughts about God doesn’t need to be the Christian God, in my mind, I’m just asking the question, what’s your own thoughts about God or spiritual things? I’m always trying to gather information from people so that I know them more so that I know what’s going on in their head so that I can keep engaging. I’m big on trying to keep people on a journey with people. I’m big on discipleship. I want to actually go on a journey with people in the world that Jesus has placed me and I want to walk with them. And over time, they see Christ revealed in my life. I mean, I’m discipling people now. They just don’t know they’re being discipled, but they’re seeing Jesus all the time. So yeah, hope that answers your question.

Evangelist Daniel King (15:05):
And what would you say to encourage a believer who maybe has a heart for evangelism but has never been bold enough to start one of these conversations? What would you say to encourage them to look for ways to start a conversation?

Tina Waldrom (15:24):
Yeah, what I would say is every person, every person is not the person for the conversation. I would say that God is at work. God is at work in people’s lives, and we need to perceive where he’s at work and then engage. For example, sometimes you can have a conversation and you can sense, oh, there’s an ease and it’s natural. Now for me to ask this question and it feels natural, but there’s times where you go, oh, it just feels like this is a brick wall here. And it would be totally awkward if I mentioned something about Jesus. And I would say at that moment, for myself, I actually don’t say anything in that conversation. I’m looking for those places where God is already at work in people’s lives where I’m coming along and building on something that’s gone on their life in the past, and that’s where I engage.

(16:25):
So in my mind, there’s people in my world that I’m engaging with and we’re just building a friendship, me and them or Jesus and them and me. And then there’s people where there’s already work. That’s the holy Spirit’s done in their life, and that’s more open. And so I’ll add a few more seeds, and then there’s next people that are ready for me to say, oh gosh, a lot. Have you ever thought about asking Jesus into your life? So it’s perceiving where God is at work. It’s assuming that he’s the great evangelist, and I’m really just coming along and working with him or partnering with him. It makes it a lot easy for all of us, I think.

Evangelist Daniel King (17:05):

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:03):
I am so excited to be here because I’m excited about telling people about Jesus. How many of you love telling people about Jesus? You are in the right place. So my name is Daniel King. I’m a missionary evangelist. I go all over the world telling people about Jesus. When I was 15 years old, I was reading a success book that said, if you want to be successful, you need to write down your goals. And one of the goals they say would be good for young people is to try to become a millionaire by the age of 30. How many of you would like to be millionaires by the age of 30? What about by the age of 60 for some of you? Well, I realize that because of my upbringing as a missionary in Mexico, that money was not what was important to me. What was important was souls.

(00:43):
And so at the age of 15, I wrote down, I Daniel King, want to lead 1 million people to Jesus Before I turned 30 years of age, instead of trying to become a millionaire, I wanted to lead a million heirs into the kingdom of God to become a soul millionaire. And so God started opening up doors in different nations around the world. And I’m excited to tell you that before I was 30 years of age, we led over 1 million people to Jesus. Isn’t that exciting? Praise God. And so since then we’ve led another million. And, and I was praying, said, God, what comes next? I felt like God said, go for a million souls every single year. And so in the natural, that’s impossible. But with God, all things are possible. And so I believe that God is raising up many of you to become so millionaires.

(01:31):
How many of you would like to be so millionaires to lead over a million people to Jesus in your lifetime? I believe that God will bring it to pass in your life. If God can do it in my life, he can do it in your life. And I see in this room many people that are called by God to be great of evangelists. All right, so let’s talk this morning or this afternoon about the call of the evangelist. What is an evangelist? How many of you feel you’re called to be an evangelist? Raise your hand. All right, wonderful. Well, you’re in the right place now. The word evangelist is mentioned three times in scripture. Paul mentions the call of the evangelist in Ephesians, chapter four, when he mentions the, the fivefold ministry gifts, the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and the teachers, and each of these gifts are given in order to equip the saints for ministry.

(02:30):
And then of course, Paul writes to Timothy, who was actually serving as a pastor in Ephesus at the time, and he tells him in second Timothy four verse five, to do the work of an evangelist. Everyone will look at the prison next to you and say, do the work of an evangelist, Evangel. And some people think that being an evangelist is just standing up on a stage and, and preaching. But that’s only one small piece of it. It’s actually a lot of hard work being an evangelist. And so all of us are called to do the work of an evangelist. And then in Acts 21 it says, leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the seven. He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied. So Acts 21 verses eight and nine, and it specifically calls Philip in evangelist.

(03:34):
He’s the only one in the entire New Testament who is specifically called an evangelist. And so I believe that God has given us a picture of what an evangelist is called to do in the life of Philip the evangelist. Now, in the beginning of his life, he was not an evangelist. In Acts 21, he is called an evangelist. But his story actually begins over in Acts chapter six. And so this is going to be an interactive session. So if you have your Bible open up your Bible. I need, I need y’all to get out your Bibles. We’re gonna be talking about the word of God. Look at Acts chapter six,

(04:29):
Verse one. It says, in those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews, among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the 12 gathered all the disciples together and said, it would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the Word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word, this proposal, please the whole group. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit and also Philip. So in the beginning of his ministry, Philip was not a great evangelist. He was simply a person who had a heart to serve.

(05:27):
And I believe that every great ministry begins with having a heart to serve. They needed someone to wait on the tables. And Philip raised his hand. He was full of the Holy Spirit. He was full of power. He raised his hand. He said, pick me. Pick me. He says, I’m willing to serve. And so if you want to do great things for God, the first step is to find a place to serve. And so if you feel called to be an evangelist, find something to do in your local church. Do something, help clean toilets, serve tables. Go to your pastor and say, what can we do to reach out to the community, find a place to serve. And as you begin to serve the Lord, God will open up the doors for you to reach thousands of people for his kingdom. Amen. Can you say amen?

(06:21):
Amen. And so that’s what God has done in my ministry. I’ve been preaching to big crowds of people all over the world. But my ministry started when I was 10 years old. My parents became missionaries to the country of Mexico. And one day my dad said, we’re gonna do a drama about the life of Jesus. He says, Daniel, I want you to play the part of Jesus. And I thought that was a good idea because Jesus was perfect, and I was almost perfect. And so my sister Esther, she dragged her leg like this, and she pretended to be crippled, and Jesus would touch her on the forehead, and, and suddenly she could dance. And then my other sister, melody, she’d come up and she’d pretend to be blind, and Jesus would spit on the ground, make some mud, but before he could touch her, she was already healed.

(07:06):
And then my father said, now we’re going to crucify Jesus. And suddenly, I didn’t want to be Jesus any longer, but my younger brother, Steven, he loved this drama because as the older brother, I’d always beat up on Steven. But in this drama, he was the Roman soldier, and he got to beat up on Jesus. And so he’d bring this big, long leather whip and he’d begin to whip me with it. And I gotta be honest with you, I think he over acted a little bit. And one day he went to my dad, he says, this drama is not realistic enough. We need some blood. And my dad thought that was a good idea. So Steven brought a big bottle of ketchup, and he put the ketchup all over the whip. And when he whipped me with it, it looked just like the movie, the passion of the Christ.

(07:50):
There was blood all over my back. And then he crucified me to the cross. And I remember hanging on the cross with all the ketchup on my back. And every fly in Mexico was attracted to the ketchup on my back. And I’d always tell my dad, dad, it’s very difficult to hang on the cross. Could you please preach quickly? But my father did not know how to preach quickly. And so he’d start in the first book of the Bible, genesis, and he’d preach all the way to the last book of the Bible appendix. He’d preach the entire thing, and I’d be hanging there on the cross, we’d catch up on my back, flies crawling up and down my back, and I’d begin to pray. I’d say, God, forgive my father for he knows not what he does. And then I would die. And one time there was a little kid, he wanted to see if Jesus was really dead or not.

(08:38):
So he came up and started tickling the bottom of my feet. I’m telling you, I suffered for the sake of the cross, but Jesus said, take up your cross and follow me. And so the amazing thing is, is that the same messages we used to preach to 30 children in Mexico, now, God is allowing us to preach to 30, 40, 50,000 people at a time. Why? Because of this principle. If you’re faithful with the small things, God says, I will place you in charge of many things. And so what’s the secret to start starting? Oh, great ministry. You gotta buy a bottle of ketchup. That’s the secret. All right, so Philip starts out with a heart to serve God. And then the great chapter about the life of Philip the evangelist is Acts chapter eight. And so look at Acts chapter eight with me, verse four.

(09:33):
It says, those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went, Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said. With shrieks, evil spirits came outta many and many paralytics and cripples were healed. So there was great joy in the city. All right, so this, this workshop is going to be interactive. I want you to look at those verses there, and these verses inform us on some of what an evangelist might do. And so just begin to talk to me, what do you see in those verses? What what do you think an evangelist should do? What what characteristics do we see for evangelism in these verses? Brother Bimba, he must go first. He must go. Everyone say the evangelists must go. Yeah. Yeah. It says Philip went to a city in Samaria. Now, Samaria was not Jerusalem. Jerusalem was his own people, but he goes to another people. So he goes, yeah, what else do you see there?

(10:49):
Preaching preached Christ. He preached. So the evangelist must preach. What was his message? Christ, Christ, Christ, Christ. It says he preached Christ. Now, this is how you distinguish a true evangelist. The evangelist will always preach about Jesus Christ. Now, in America, I don’t know if it’s true here in Europe, but in in America, you know, there’s, there’s people that call themselves evangelists, and they, they travel from church to church, but I don’t think many of them are. So, some of them are not really true evangelists because, you know, they go and they talk about marriage. They do a seminar and how to be a success in business. But if you want to identify a true evangelist, amen. His message will be about Jesus Christ. He can star anywhere in scripture, but he’ll get to Jesus just as quickly as he can. And so that’s how you identify a true evangelist.

(11:40):
Are they preaching about Christ? All right, what else do you see here? They cast out demons. They cast out demons. So yeah, we’ve seen that in many of our crusades, that there’s demon manifestations. And so with the authority in the name of Jesus, we cast out the demons. What else? What else? What else do you see? Signs, signs, signs, wonders, miracles. And so this is according to Acts eight, this is one of the distinguishing characteristics of Philip the evangelist. He did miracles. Yeah. What else do you see? Great joy. There’s great joy in the city. And we see that great joy comes when the evangelist preaches the good news, because peoples get saved. Their lives are completely cha changed. What else do you see captured the attention? They captured the attention of the people. The people listened. Yeah. What else do you see? He went where others didn’t wanna go. He went where others didn’t want to go. Amen. Yeah. What else? How, how many people does he minister to here in Samaria? Is it just a few multitude? It says a multitude. And so these are two of the distinguishing characteristics of the evangelists. He, he ministers to multitudes, and we see miracles cast out demons. There’s great joy in the city. He proclaims the Christ.

(13:11):
Yeah, we can learn a lot from this passage, and that’s what we want to see God do in our day-today. We want to cast out demons. We want to see God do miracles. We want to hear that Christ is being preached. We want to see multitudes. Can you say amen? Amen. All right. So let’s continue on. It says now for some time, there was a man named Simon who had practiced sorcery, and he was amazed at what was happening. He went from being amazing to being amazed. And then look at verse 13. It says, Simon himself believed and was baptized, and he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw. And then the next verse, it says, when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. And when they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon them.

(14:13):
They had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. So we see here that a great revival is happening in Samaria. People are being baptized, miracles are happening. But then he sends word to the church in Jerusalem, and Peter and John, the apostles come and they come to work with Philip in this great revival that’s happening. And so the number one question that I receive as an evangelist, if any of you are evangelists, you probably have heard this question before. It’s what do you do for follow up? Have any of you ever heard that question? Anyone ever ask you that? What do you do for follow up? And they say, maybe they never, ever led a single person to Jesus in their whole life, but they stand with their arms. Folds are, well, what do you do about follow up? I always like to, I want to say like DL Moody said, well, what do you do about salvation? What do you do about leading people to Jesus?

(15:24):
Yeah. What do you do about follow up? Well, here, I think we have a biblical model for follow up. The evangelist does not minister alone. He ministers with other ministry gifts. And so the evangelist is especially anointed by God to break into new territory, to be a pioneer, to go where the gospel has not been preached to be, to preach before, to be entrepreneurial, to look for opportunities. And so that’s a unique gifting of the evangelist. But the evangelist is not called to minister alone. Along with the evangelist comes all the other ministry gifts. And so we need the apostles, we need the prophets, we need the pastors, we need the teachers, we need administration, we need helps ministry all these different gifts. We bring them along with us. And I think that’s the secret to follow up, is the evangelist is not called to do it alone.

(16:16):
You always work closely with the local church. We love the local church. We work with the local church. We want to partner with the local church. And, and so along with the evangelists, we bring all the other ministry gifts. And I think that’s the answer to follow up. The evangelist is cannot do all the follow up on, on his own. If someone says, what do you do about follow up? I say, come, brother, you come and help teach, come and help us follow up and disciple the new believers. Amen. Amen. All right. So they’re having a very successful ministry there in Samaria. And then this guy Simon, he comes, he asks if he can buy the gift of the Holy Spirit. And, and unfortunately in the body of Christ, there’s been a problem with people selling gifts of the holy experience.

(17:06):
But in fact, in English, we have a word called simony. It means to, to buy the gift of of God. And it actually is named after this man, Simon. But it, and and unfortunately there’s some people in the body of Christ that if you asked to buy the gift of the Holy Spirit, they might offer to sell it to you for a thousand Euro. You know? But you see, Peter, he rebukes the spirit. And so the, the evangelist is never called to be driven by money. We’re driven by souls. Amen. And so we’re not after money. We’re not after a service. We’re not after our ego or just having big crowds. We’re gifted by God to care about people and to go after souls. And so that’s what we’re called to do. Amen. Amen. And then in the midst of this extremely successful, amazing revival happening in Samaria, God has another assignment for Philip the evangelist.

(18:09):
Look at verse 26. It says, now, an angel of the Lord said to Philip, go south to the road, the desert road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. And so you can imagine Philip getting a little bit upset with God. Say, God, here I am in Samaria. We have a very successful revival happening. He says, why do you want me to go down to the desert road? There’s no one on the desert road. The desert road is hot. Why should I go down to the desert road? Here I am in Samaria. We’re getting very beautiful pictures here in Samaria for my newsletter. Why do you want me to go down to the desert road? But he’s an obedient evangelist. So he goes, and look at what happens. It says, so he started out in, on his way, he met in Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians.

(19:10):
This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship. And on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah, the prophet. The spirit told Philip, go to that chariot and stay near it. Then Philip ran up to the chariot, heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet, do you understand what you’re reading? Philip asked, how can I, he said, unless someone explains it to me. So he invited Philip to come up and to sit with him. So this Ethiopian eunuch had come to Jerusalem to worship Yahweh, the God of Israel. The Ethiopians had a knowledge of Yahweh going all the way back to the Queen of Shiba who had visited King Solomon. And so King Solomon met the queen of Shiba. She took the knowledge of Yahweh back. So this Ethiopian unit, he went to Jerusalem. He wanted to worship God. But when he arrived at the temple, there was a big problem. And it was found in the law of Moses. Over in Deuteronomy chapter 23, verse one, let me read this scripture to you. Look at Deuteronomy chapter 23,

(20:29):
Verse one. This is the law of Moses. It says, no one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the Lord. And no one born of a foreign marriage, nor any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, even down to the 10th generation. And so in Deuteronomy, it said, if you’re emasculated or if you’re a foreigner, you’re not allowed to enter the temple of God. And so this Ethiopian unit, you know what a eunuch is? A eunuch is a man who’s been cut off. Do I need to explain? He’s been cut off. And so he’s maimed. He’s imperfect, and he comes to the temple to worship. And he’s not allowed to come into the temple because he is a foreigner, because he’s imperfect. But yet he has a hunger to know God. And so he buys a scroll, which back then would’ve cost a a year’s wages.

(21:42):
And so that’s, how much would a year’s wages for a man be today? You know, imagine spending 60, 70,000 Euro to buy a copy of Isaiah, and he’s hungry, but he, he’s reading it. He doesn’t understand it. So God sends the evangelist to explain it to him. And so he’s looking at it and says, how can I understand unless someone explains it to me? And Philip, the evangelist is there because God sent him, said, let me explain it to you. And so look at this, it says verse 35, Philip beginning with that very passage of scripture, told him the good news about Jesus. What is the evangelist message? Good news about Jesus, good news about Jesus to Samaria, he preached Christ to the Ethiopian. He shares good news about Jesus. That’s the message of the evangelist. And so the passage he reads from Isaiah is Isaiah chapter 53, the beautiful passage that talks about what Jesus accomplished on the cross about how our sins were placed on Jesus.

(22:51):
And because of him, we can be set free from sin. And so it says He was led like a sheep to the slaughter and as a lamb before the shear is silent. So he did not open his mouth in his humiliation. He was deprived of justice, who can speak of his descendants, for his life was taken from him. So Philip begins in Isaiah 53, but I don’t think he ends there. I think he spent some time with his Ethiopian, and he continued with him until he came to Isaiah chapter 56. So when the writer of the book of Acts wrote this, you know, they would have large portions of scripture memorized. So, so people reading this would’ve, they would’ve instantly, they didn’t have chapter divisions. They put the first couple of verses to remind people of the passage. But it’s, you know, it’s a longer passage that the writer of Acts wants to bring to mind. And so in Isaiah 56, there’s a beautiful passage that talks about what will happen after the Messiah comes, and how there will be a change in the kingdom of God. And so look at Isaiah chapter 56. This, this is, this is amazing. This is so exciting. Every time I read this, I get excited.

(24:22):
Listen to this, this, this is a prophecy. So you remember, Deuteronomy has the law. It says, no one who’s emasculated, no one who’s a foreigner may enter into the kingdom of God or enter into the temple. But here in Isaiah 56, listen to this prophecy about what will happen after the Messiah comes verse three. It says, let no foreigner who has bound himself to the Lord say the Lord shall surely exclude me from his people. And so he’s talking to a foreigner, he’s talking to this Ethiopian. And then it says, and let not any eunuch complain, I am only a dry tree. So he is talking to a foreigner, and he is talking to a eunuch. For this is what the Lord says to the eunuchs who keep my sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant, to them, I will give within my temple in its walls a memorial, in a name better than sons and daughters. I will give them an everlasting name, and they will not be cut off

And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord, to serve him, to love the name of the Lord, and to worship him and who keep the Sabbath, who will fasten my covenant. These I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar, for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. And so imagine the Ethiopian looking at this passage in Isaiah 56, and he had just gone to Jerusalem. They kept him out of the temple. Archeo, archeologists actually have the stone that was at the gate of the temple that said, any foreigner that goes past this point will be killed. They found that in Jerusalem, that stone. So he came there and he is not allowed to enter into worship Yahweh, but Philip is telling him, because of Jesus, everything has changed. Jesus changes everything. And where there used to be lines of separation, they say, now we have a circle of inclusion. And you are included. There is a place for you. Even if you are imperfect, even if you have made mistakes in your life, even if you are a foreigner, even if there’s something different about you, there is a place for you in the house of God. The house of God has room for every person, every nation, every people. There is a room for you because Jesus changes everything. Amen. Amen.

(27:28):
Hallelujah. Amen. Isn’t that good? Powerful. Jesus changes everything. And so look at this, as they traveled around along the road, they came to some water. And then eunuch said, look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized? Or is there anything stopping me from being baptized? And Phillips says, no, there’s nothing that prevents you from having a relationship with God. Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. He broke the wall of separation. And now there is a place for every single one of us to come and to have a relationship with God. And so the Ethiopian says, stop the chariot. And they get down out of the chariot, and they go into the water.

(28:30):
The Ethiopian is baptized. And then it says, when they came up out of the water, the spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away. And the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. Now, someone today would say to Philip, well, what did you do to follow up on the Ethiopian? Well, the Holy Spirit followed up on the oath, Ethiopian. And it’s a miracle what God did in the life of this Ethiopian. And it says, Philip, however, appeared at as ptosis and traveled about preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea. And it’s in Caesarea that we find him. And he’s there in Acts 21 with his four virgin daughters who all prophesy. And so Caesarea was a city built by Herod the Great and given as a gift to Caesar, the emperor of Rome. And so he built it.

(29:38):
And it was very controversial cuz they included temples to foreign gods, even though he was a Jewish king, they allowed temples to be built. And so it was where all the ships came from, the Roman Empire. And when sailors come off the boats, what did they do? They, they behaved like drunken sailors. But in the midst of this sinful, wicked city that has foreign temples and, and sin on every corner, I don’t know, maybe is a little bit like Amsterdam, I don’t know. But in this place, God sent Philip the evangelist, and he’s there and he’s ministering, he’s evangelizing, telling people about Jesus. And then he has four virgin daughters who all prophesy in the body of Christ. Recently there’s been a controversy about whether women can speak in church. Well, it’s hard for them to speak if it’s hard for them to prophesy if they keep their mouth closed, because I believe God’s raising up women evangelists.

(30:43):
In fact, I think some of the greatest harvest will see will come from women evangelists. Can you say amen? Amen. Amen. Yeah. And so these four virgin father, they ministered right alongside their father. And in the midst of this sinful city, they kept themselves pure and holy. And it would be so tragic to, to lead thousands of people to Jesus, but for your own son or daughter to go to hell. And so this is part of the calling of an evangelist. You go, you travel, you minister in different places, but I believe also we’re called to be ministered together as a family. Today I have my son Caleb here, everyone say hi to Caleb. He’s helping me run the, the program here. I also have my daughter Katie Grace back here. Everyone say hi to Katie Grace. Now this is my beautiful wife, Jessica. Jessica has been a missionary for, for many years. We actually met in Goma Congo, right on the border of Rwanda and Congo. And at that time she was a crusade director. She was helping to set up crusades in, in Africa. And so I was a crusade evangelist. She was a crusade director. When I saw her, I said, wow, this is a match made in heaven, <laugh>.

(31:56):
And when she saw me, she was checking me out. And after 10 seconds, she says, no, I’m not interested. <Laugh>, she didn’t like my haircut. But a year later I went to preach her church in Canada and I had a new haircut. And then we started to date, date <laugh>. And, and I was anointed that day. And so <laugh> now we’ve been married for 15 years, but you know, God doesn’t just call individuals. He calls families. Amen. And so to be part of the family was to be in my life growing up, was to be part of the ministry. And so we’re called to reach the masses, but we’re also called to, to raise up godly children. Amen. Amen. And so let’s finish with some prayer. Could you all stand up to your feet, lift up your hands to heaven, and let’s begin to pray. I believe that in this room we have many who are called to be evangelists. And I believe that today God is going to strengthen that call in your life.

Yes.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (33:11):
And I believe that God is going to give new creative ideas for evangelism, new ways to reach people. And today, my prayer is, is that the same anointing that’s on my life for evangelism will come upon your life. Lord, I pray for an impartation right now upon every person here be filled with the Holy Spirit. Yes, Lord, I pray that all the, the signs of an evangelist would be present. Amen. For every evangelist who is here, I pray that they would preach Christ, give them a passion for preaching about Jesus. Lord, I pray for miracles to happen in their ministries. Come on, lift up your hands to heaven. Lord, I pray that their hands would be healing hands, that every person they touch would feel the touch of Jesus. Lord, I pray that they would be able to cast out demons that through the authority of the name of Jesus, amen, that they would be able to take authority over every demonic power. Lord, I pray that wherever they go, that great joy would follow them. Lord, I pray that none of these evangelists here would ever be driven by love of money, but they would be driven by a love for souls and for going after people, for bringing people to Jesus.

(34:49):
Oh, hallelujah. Father God, pour out your spirit upon this place. Oh, hallelujah. Lord. We call for mighty evangelists to be raised up out of this room.

(35:12):
To go to the nations with boldness, even closed nations where it’s hard to preach the gospel. Lord, I pray that you give us the right strategies to go to the hard places, to be pioneer. Evangelists, just like Philip went to Samaria, cross-cultural ministry, cross language groups. Lord, I pray that you would enable us to reach even the one that we would be able to preach to the masses, but that we would also be able to preach to the individual who needs Jesus. I pray that we never take our eyes off of each individual. Lord, we pray for the the every one vision. That’s the theme of this conference that you’ve given to Dr. Billy Wilson to reach every person on earth with the gospel of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit in the next 10 years before 2033, the 2000 year anniversary of the day of Pentecost in the natural. It’s impossible. But God, we know that through you all things are possible. And Lord, I pray that we would be able to reach everyone, everyone throughout the earth, that every person would have a chance to hear the gospel.

Welcome to the Evangelism Podcast. I’m Daniel King. I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. I have a very special guest with me, bill Hogg. Thank you for joining me on the Evangelism Podcast.

Bill Hogg (00:11):
Delight to, to join you. Thanks for the invitation today, Daniel.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:15):
So we are together at the Advance Evangelist Summit in Calgary, Alberta in Canada, and evangelists from all over the nation of Canada. And even a few other parts of the world have come together to talk about evangelism. And you have helped to organize all this. Kind of tell me the story of, of this summit and, and why God put this on your heart to bring evangelists together.

Bill Hogg (00:43):
So there’s a bit of a backstory if you want that, where God stirred my heart about the fact that in Canada, the evangelist is missing in action. There’s a scarcity of the evangelist. I mean, you might be able to quote this Rice Brooks for his doctoral dissertation scan the United States, what, 10, 15 years ago and thought maybe evangelical, charismatic Bible teaching churches, maybe one in a hundred would be graced with the gift and anointing of the evangelist. So that was part of my covid reading. You know, what do you do when you’re encapsulated in a lockdown? You read stuff and I thought Canada, it’s probably anecdotally it’s maybe one in 200. So I, I was involved in assessing coaching, training and supporting church planters and was disturbed that many church planters could not articulate the gospel with clarity, which I think is basic foundation for any kind of ministry.

(01:40):
And a lot of church planting is not evangelistic. So we used to quote Peter Wagner, who said, the most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is the planting of new churches. But in response to that, I would quote the music composer, not the theologian called Porter, who would say, it ain’t necessarily so. So that used to disturb me. And I would meet with network leaders and church planting catalysts or denomin national officers and say, who are the evangelists in your tribe? And they would say, that’s a really good question. If I was feeling cheeky, I would say I only ask good questions. But generally, crickets would chirp in the background because they couldn’t identify the evangelists. So that used to disturb me a great deal. And, and a couple of things happened. One is I went to message trust in the UK and spoke at their first ever advanced summit where they had identified 250 evangelists in the uk, invited 170 or 170, came to the summit.

(02:48):
They probably invited all 250. It was 170 in the room. I was the closing speaker. And of course, evangelists never watched the clock, Daniel. So 170 had hemorrhage down to maybe a hundred when I was in the room. And we did a great time in ministry. And as I stepped away from that encounter, I was there with my wife, Morag. I thought, Lord, if you can identify and raise up evangelists in Jo Post-Christian England, why not here in Canada? At the same time, I’m involved in a, an entity called Church, plant Plant in Canada. We bring leaders and church planting catalyzers from across the country. And when the old church planting network, it was part of, I was the only member of our team there. So we had a facilitator. You’ve been in these rooms, they break out, they give you giant post-it notes, kind of what’s your contribution to our conversation?

(03:40):
So I’m a team member of one, a committee of one. So it’s command and control time. So I just drew the Edward Munch screen picture, ah, and then I put prison bars over it, and then I drew a gigantic foot. So I’m the only person that did any kind of cartoon, put it on the wall. People are talking about their aspirations of church planting. And I said, there’s a, I was asked to explain myself. I said, the food reminds us how beautiful on the mountains are the feet of them who bring good news. But in Canada and appointed to in Canada, we’ve imprisoned, incarcerated, sidelined the evangelist. And after we’d been there in the mountains for three days, I was driving back in the rental car, rental car filled with the presence of God. And I had one of those holy moments where it’s just almost like a stillness descends on you.

(04:34):
And I said, Jesus, I think part of the story, maybe the primary reason, the big reason you brought me to Canada is to be part of reclaiming the advance list for the advancement of the gospel. So there’s been that partial as part of the story. I could go into more of the backstory around that, but I was intrigued that what, under Andy Hawthorne’s catalytic leadership, he would be a leading gospel champion in the uk, an apostolic evangelist. And now under Ben Jack’s leadership evangelists were popping up in the uk. And I’m like, why not Canada? So our first play was when I joined message as their national director. The first event we hosted was an advance summit in November, 2019. And we gathered about 85 leaders from across the country, two ends of the spectrum, young adults who were part of a school of evangelism, seasoned statesmen, evangelists like tv, Thomas pastors with a heart for evangelism, street evangelists, proclamation, evangelists, evangelist.

(05:41):
And it was a powerful time of prophetic activation and worship and prayer in networking. We thought, Hey Lord, let’s do that again. And of course, we’ve had to navigate the dynamics of covid where we couldn’t gather. And so this is our first gathering, and part of the gathering is just to identify evangelists. We want to create an association of Canadian evangelists. We want to populate churches and ministries with advanced groups. We want to be a broker of getting the evangelist embedded in the life of the local church as a gospel agitator, as a servant, as an equipper. And see what God would do. So big ideas, Lord, give us grace to find the flames of evangelism in Canada.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:22):
Well, as an evangelist, I’m very thankful for your heart to raise up evangelists. I think it’s so important. And I, I was called as an evangelist at a very young age and always had the heart for evangelism. And you start to, to try to figure out what that means. And so I looked at other great evangelists, looked at the pictures of TL Osborne and Billy Graham and Reinhardt Bonky and, and just dream about doing that someday. And then I did my doctorate ministry at Oral Roberts University and, and read all of Rice Brooks materials Okay. For my, my dissertation, which was on mass evangelism. And you know, so you grow in your understanding of being an evangelist and, and it’s so valuable what you’re doing to help people to understand what it means to be an evangelist. And so let’s talk about the need for evangelism here in Canada. You were sharing some statistics last night. Tell me, tell me about the need for evangelism here in Canada.

Bill Hogg (07:24):
Well, we’re, we’re really a gospel parch country. Daniel those joining us on the Evangelism Podcast might not realize the spiritual demography or landscape in Canada. So there’s Quebec, which is the most unreached piece of real estate in all of the America’s, north America’s, central America, south America. And of course there are Christians beyond evangelicalism, but Quebec has about 0.5% of its population who would self-identify as an evangelical using the classic, albeit reductionist, bebbington quadrilateral. Now that’s less self-identified evangelicals than in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which is 0.6%. There’s another trend, we talk a lot about the nuns and Dunns, and of course some other social issues have been front and center, and that’s kind of been on the back burner of conversation. But there’s a story of accelerated de Christianization. So in 1961, I think 1% of Canada would identify as having no religious affiliation whatsoever.

(08:35):
Now in 2023, it’s approaching 40%. The Evangelical fellowship of Canada created a composite category of aas sns. Now who are they? They’re atheists, agnostics, spiritual, but not religious and nuns. Those nuns have got no religious affiliation. And that composite category is 50% of Canada. And in the same piece of research, which is about two years old, they say zero as the new normal. Now what are they talking about? Church engagement? Church participation. So the normal Canadian is not remotely interested in engaging with the faith community, no matter how slick the programs are or how vibrant or spiritually hot the environment is. And then the other story which we’ve unearthed is that church planting’s dirty little secret is transfer growth. So generally speaking, church plants that grow are simply recycling Christians from other churches. So where are we seeing missional engagement? Where are we seeing fruitful evangelism?

(09:48):
And frankly, a church like say Auntie Greco’s Church or Dave Coop’s church, or First Alliances Church Calgary, where they’re seeing baptisms on profession of faith is rare, now takes catalytic leadership. So a friend of mine who I didn’t mention there, passes a church in Cologna. And during the pandemic when things were on hold, he said, we are about mission, we’re not about maintenance. So it requires that kind to leadership. So even during the pandemic one year, an Anthony at Calgary Life Church saw a hundred professions of faith and baptized. 62 people during the pandemic, two of them had baptized in secret because there were Muslim converts who showed up at the church and said, is this a church that interprets dreams? And an Anthony said to me, bill, I’ve never interpreted a dream in my life, but I said, sure, we are. What have you got?

(10:40):
And they had a dream where someone in Dalin White appeared to them, and it’s like, duh, it’s Jesus. So he shared Jesus with them. Let me give you the interpretation. You need Jesus, that, that that’s exactly right. So, I mean, there’s beautiful anomalies. I would say they’re outliers, but generally what we’re seeing is a decline. So other stats would be 80 to 85% of Canadian churches have plateaued or declined. And that would include evangelical Bible, believing churches, spirit-filled churches, not simply the mainline churches who we might say, well, of course they’ve lost the gospel, but you can’t say that wholesale. So it’s about 85% of the churches now that’s using the unhelpful metrics of church attendance. Church participation, which is a lousy metric. It’s not a kingdom metric. But what it does tell us, for most churches, their best days are in yester year. And they need to experience profound gospel recalibration, deep spiritual renewal, and actually embrace a journey of change. And of course, Robert Quinn who wrote about deep Change said most organizations and most people would rather choose slow death than deep change. And he said, you’ve got a choice the hell of deep change or the hell of slow death. And so that requires courageous leadership, wise leadership, probably apostolic leadership, to catalyze around the centrality of the gospel and, and create a dream for a new day of missional fruitfulness.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:16):
And that’s why it’s so important to raise up evangelists and to elevate the gift of the evangelist in the church. We desperately need more people who have a heart to, to go out and to to reach the loss. And that’s one of the things you’re, you’re attempting to do is, is to raise up evangelists. And one of the tools that you’re using to do that is the advanced course. And, and so talk to me about how evangelists can get together and to, to commit to meet together on a regular basis and use this curriculum, which the messenger trust makes available free of charge to people all over the world. And how, how can they use this to, to help disciple and mentor evangelists?

Bill Hogg (13:01):
Great, great question. So I think if we’re, if we’re going to learn new skills or, or, or call out latent evangelistic capacity, the best way is to learn in a community and not simply learn cerebral head information. I mean, you’ve, you’ve studied at postgraduate level, and that’s awesome because James Denny said, all our evangelists should be theologians, and all our theologians should be evangelists, but I would include myself in this. Most of us, what we know is not matched by our obedience or the level of our Christ-likeness or the level of our missional engagement. And this creates a learning community where you could be a gifted leader and facilitate a group, but it doesn’t even actually require strong leadership because we’ve created a curriculum. So initially the advanced group was kinda Lucy goosey Andy Hawthorne mentoring 12 others. And for about 18 months, I don’t think it even had a name.

(14:02):
You know, maybe it would be Andy’s disciples or something. And then at one point he said, go down and do likewise. And the 12, we’ve heard this before, the 12 went out to multiply, but what they created, Ben Jack created the advanced group guide. And that is the content which you wrestle with do homework on pray into apply. And, and that’s the centerpiece of the group that meets around a, if you like, a three-legged stool around how clear and pure is your gospel. Because we can’t assume gospel centrality, the Apostle Paul says, we’re all gospel amnesia acts. Let me remind you of that, which is our first importance. So we’re kinda pressing in, how clear is my gospel? Has the gospel really taken root in my heart in life to have a gospel-centered operating system? I’m a Twitter painted with the beauty and truth and infused with the power of the gospel, but then does my life actually commend the gospel?

(15:05):
So there’s questions about our Christ-likeness, our holiness, our purity or transparency or honesty. And so there’s also a third stool, which is around stewardship of gospel opportunity. And this is with the company of a group, could be six, I think it, it’s not as good. If you drop below that small group dynamics or a group of 12, you get beyond that, then maybe the big bold extrovert dominates the conversation and the the quieter person really doesn’t get an opportunity to engage. And there’s whole life accountability questions, not simply the classic financial and sexual purity and integrity questions around the stewardship of energy and, and family life and, and work life and questions like, are you sharpening the saw, which sounds like a Stephen Covey kind of question. But around those three dynamics, the groups meet regularly, Daniel, with the goal of mutual evangelistic sharpening, basically elevated evangelism, intentionality, and intensity would be outcome or more evangelism Mojo. And Ben Jack has now created a three year mentoring guide. So there’s plenty of content. So if you’re a gifted leader, it’s just a grab bag of resources to facilitate a group that doesn’t even have to do evangelism together, but can support and reinforce each other on a journey of going deeper with Jesus and be more intentional about making him known. And Tom Phillips, who’s I think the longest serving member of the Billy Graham Teamy, served under Billy and serves under Franklin said it’s the most gospel centered evangelistic training resource he’s found. And it’s free.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (16:52):
Yeah. I’ve gone through all of the advanced material and it’s really tremendous. And, and so if there’s an evangelist who’s listening who want to start an advanced group, what’s the website where they can download the advanced guide?

Bill Hogg (17:07):
That’s a good question.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (17:08):
What’s, what’s the Canadian website? It’s a advanced or no, the messenger trust ca

Bill Hogg (17:14):
If, if you go to, this is the convoluted way cuz you put me on the spot and I’m sorry. Said. Yeah, no, it’s good. I was saying, Hey, I’m usually good at thinking on my feet. But if you go to message canada.org, you’ll see more, more of what we do. And then if you click on what we do, you’ll go down to the advance page, and there you can download PDF of the three year guide or the advanced group taster guide. Now it’s based on commitment. I think it’s the pair of a consecrated idea that you commit, you follow through, but you would meet regularly, which translates to an investment of two hours once a month. You would be committed to evangelistic sharpening. You would be committed to staying in contact maybe through a WhatsApp group and praying for each other.

(18:02):
But the, the resources free is a pdf. If if you go there, if you go to this event, we’ve got an event landing page, advance summit org g you can scroll down there and you’ll see the blue shiny three month taster guide where you can say, okay, we, we gotta be all in. We gotta prioritize this, but let’s journey for three months and see what the fruit is. And I think the fact that you meet a month apart creates a learning loop. Okay, we’ve heard this, do the homework, or we’ve heard this, put it into practice. I actually met with a discipleship pastor and, and at a large church, and they wanted to include it in their kind of Christian education curriculum for the winter. And it put about bill, if we did it six weeks in a row, I said, I’m really not persuaded by that because you, you need to have space and time to put it into practice, you know, and Steve, this fruit. So if you and I are in the group and you say, bill what, what’s the Holy Spirit asking you to do with your five that you’re focused on, your five pre questions? Well, I’m going to take so-and-so out for dinner and I’m praying for a gospel conversation. Then I meet a month later that’s giving me enough time to book the dinner. And you can say, bell, how did it go? I’d say, Daniel, pray for me. It was a complete disaster. Or I screwed up what happened?

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (19:23):
Gives you time to test it and Yeah. Apply it in

Bill Hogg (19:26):
Your life. Exactly. Yeah.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (19:27):
Yeah. Now I was talking to some of the, the guys that are here, and they were telling me that they’re part of an Eden group Yeah. Up in Edmonton, where they’re going into the community, living in the community, and evangelizing and discipling people. And so tell me about the Eden Group and, and, and what you’re trying to accomplish with that.

Bill Hogg (19:48):
Great question. So it started in the uk really inspired by a scripture in the book of Ezekiel that says the city that has been laid waste has become like the Garden of Eden. And so there’s a, a vision of community transformation through gospel transformation. And there could be remainers people who live in a broken postal code or a challenging community. There could be returners maybe who grew up there when this girl got a job moved out the city and they could return, or there could be relocate who hear the disruptive call of Jesus who says, as the Father has sent me, so I’m sending you. And they’re really teams of incarnation, missionaries, whooo, roots down deep. Sometimes we engage with the poor, maybe even in a paternalistic fashion where we come in, hand out some food, wander the streets and return to suburbia.

(20:45):
And I happen to live in suburbia. So I’m, I’m pointing at three fingers back at myself there. But you’ve gotta hear a disruptive call from Jesus because it’s, it’s costly. But where it started with predominantly young adults in the United Kingdom here in the call of Jesus to move into some of these challenging postal codes and communities. And there’s, there’s some unique socio-demographics in the uk. So places like Bench Hill or Charleston or, or within Shaw, within Shaw is a sprawl of a hundred thousand people in Greater Manchester. And lots and lots of these people are going backwards financially. And one of the metrics, you could look there, they’re getting free school meals. And you go, okay, is there a partner church? And is there a place of deprivation in poverty? So it’s really the story in Edmonton’s. Beautiful. She, Moses who grew up in Sri Lanka, was traumatized by things in his family.

(21:46):
And being in a war torn country was redeemed by Jesus and has a huge heart for the broken, the poor and the marginalized. So the idea as a team of people would live in gospel community, they would intentionally discern what’s the Holy Spirit doing? How can we join them? They would do community assessments. So we don’t make assumptions about what the needs are, find out what the needs are. Do some community ex Jesus in the agendas to share the love of God, to proclaim the gospel, to bless and elevate the prayer. Now the UK story is across 20 years, there’s been more than 77 0 teams deploying over 700 urban missionaries. So it feels like a movement to me. Wow. And, and they’ve seen measurable community transformation through asset-based community development as the lens. So things like isolation, crime recede, because why the people who are salt and light are living out in front of them loving the neighborhood and loving their neighbors.

(22:51):
And so th this is one of the things we’re, we’re pursuing here in Canada. We’ve got couple leading teams in Prince George, which is a city of about a hundred thousand 12 hour drive or a short hop and a puddle jumper type aircraft from Vancouver. And we’re partnering with a great church there as part of their micro church planting strategy that the Eden teams would be catalyst for micro church. But there are couples who are recruiting teams who’ve moved into low income apartments and finding out what Jesus wants them to do. Coastal Church, which has a great motto or mantra, helping make the city a better place. They’ve got a, an Eden team under the leadership of far and Angela Mcg far is grew up a Muslim in Iran, moved to Denmark, came to Canada, got hijacked by Jesus. And he’s about 15 years into a story of being an urban missionary, I think nine years as a pastor at Coastal Church. And they live in the downtown East side. And we wanna see a proliferation of that. We’re in conversations in other places. And the strange story is during Covid, the Lord’s expanded the Eden teams, you know, here in Canada where we’ve had some very challenging restrictions for what is a high-touch ministry. It’s a community engagement ministry. So, so that’s the heart of Eden. And if people hear the destructive call of Jesus to bring good news to the poor, you can reach out to us.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (24:28):
So you’ve been involved in evangelism for many years in, in church planning and you call yourself evangelism catalyst. So what advice would you give to a young person who might feel called to be an evangelist?

Bill Hogg (24:43):
That’s a great question. I mean, I think they could learn from you, Daniel, cuz you’ve studied the great evangelists and not all the great evangelists are platform evangelists. Like I’ve got a growing friendship with Gordon, who used to be a VP of marketing with Tommy Hilfiger, and he’s having gospel encounters and he texts me all the time photographs of people, he’s led to Christ. And there’s, there’s low hanging fruits. So I think you can learn, I mean, I’ll learn how to give an altar call from Luis Pau. And, and I would consider Luis a source of encouragement, a friend, a mentor. We can be mentored by evangelist that will never actually have a cup of coffee with if we study their life. But I’m thinking as you ask that question. When I was recruited and interviewed to come on board the church planting network as national methodologist, my friend hired me and he became my boss.

(25:42):
Were no longer in that story. That’s for a different podcast. But when I was in South Africa at Cape Town 2010, the Lord spoke to me by direct immediate revelation from the Holy Spirit. He also spoke to me from exposition of scripture and conversations and, and challenged me about the evangelist being missing in action. But the Lord spoke to me and he said, I’m redeploying you as an apostolic evangelist and I want you to work with Gord Fleming. So Gord, my friend, became my boss, but he was a maniac or a lunatic. A lunatic in terms of interviews. I had 10 interviews.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (26:23):
Wow.

Bill Hogg (26:23):
And some of them were sneaky like guys, says, I’m just one of a cup of coffee with you and find out what’s going on in your soul. I’m like, you stinker. You’re, you’re here to scan man and man and find out what’s going on. But God wanted to make sure we’re on the same page. So there’s great wisdom in that. But one of our meetings, he said, I don’t believe in job descriptions. I said, that’s awesome. My life mission statement is, don’t fence me in. I don’t like job descriptions. Now, I had to have a job description because Revenue Canada insisted on it. But he said, if you did have a job description, it would have three things.

(27:00):
Stay close to Jesus. Ask God to break your heart for the lost and do whatever it takes to fulfill the mission. Now I think if you and I live to be Caleb’s at 85, or you and I have birthday parties when we’re 110, I think that’s our job description. And I think that would be the job description for someone. Stick close to Jesus. Jesus says, abide, abide, abide remain in me. And the primary invitation in call is not to be an evangelist. That’s the secondary or tertiary call. The primary call is to follow Jesus and to enjoy loving union and communion with Jesus. So don’t skimp on that. You know, figure out. And it’s maybe like learning to dance. If you grew up in a legalistic Pentecostal church, how do you dance dancing’s wrong? And, and then you find it’s okay to dance and you stumble around to dance for it.

(27:55):
But stumble into spending time with Jesus, immerse in yourself in the scriptures, learning to hear his voice, and then ask God to do something na supernatural to break your heart for the lost. I mean, John Piper says, it takes a miracle to have a broken heart for the lost. And I think he’s exactly right. When I was a young, obnoxious evangelist like abrasive, I’d love to go on a time machine and sit back and evaluate young belt inaction. I would get up there somewhere, I’d still get my sermons. And there were nightmare sermons. But I would be praying and because I heard Luis Pau say that he used to prep his sermons on his knees. So I would sometimes do my sermons prep on my knees, on my bed with a notebook and a Bible. And sometimes tears would splash on my Bible as I would visualize who would be there because my local church is an act of generosity and stupidity.

(28:54):
Let me loose when I was 16 and then during a pastoral vacancy, had me preach when I was in my late teens and maybe 20. And I was a, an arrogant young punk of an evangelist. But I would be weeping and I would, I would work it as a little manipulator. I would invite the neighbors, Hey, you know, I’d really appreciate your support if you’d come because they’ve asked me to preach at church. And it would mean a lot to me if you came and I’m just getting them in my evangelist crosshairs. But I would find myself weeping in the private place, but on types just weeping. If I keep the altar call and it’s stand there being been overcome and people who were old enough to be my parents would come forward in response to an altar call. Now what does that tell us?

(29:39):
A couple of things. God can use an arrogant self-important guy who hasn’t even found out who he is cuz he’s an adolescent. You don’t know who you are. But there’s a principle. And the principle is this, those that sew with tears shall read with joy. So I don’t always weep buckets for the lost but we need to invite Jesus to, to give us soft hearts. And then the trifecta was, do whatever it takes. Well I think the root of that is just be opening, obedient, and available. Don’t be ambitious for platform. Be opening receptive to opportunity. Give Jesus your yes and get a mentor or figure out how can this gift be stewarded? Cuz there’s not a ton of developmental pathways for evangelism. And one of the things we want to do is we want to find the flames of evangelism broadly. We want to support pastors in create a culture of evangelism, embolden everyday Christians. But the evangelist is uniquely catalytic for the advancement of the gospel. So we want to figure out how can we draw them in and create a heart, create a warm fire where we can hear the stories, pray for them, encourage them, resource them. So those, those are some of the thoughts.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (31:00):
Well, thank you so much. Let’s finish by praying for those who are listening, that God would soften our hearts for the lost. Would you pray?

Bill Hogg (31:12):
Yeah.

(31:16):
Father, your heart is filled with tenderness and compassion for the lost. And we confess that we’re sometimes like Jonah the miserable prophet who has a theology of grace and mercy and salvation who can even make a, a bold declaration. Salvation is from the Lord. But like Jonah, we don’t carry your heart for the lost. When he protested that he didn’t want to come to Ninevah because he had that gut intuition that you wouldn’t judge the nites, you would extend mercy. And we thank you that you are the Lord, the Lord, gracious and compassionate, slow anger, and full of mercy. Jesus, we thank you that when you looped out on the crowds who were harassed and helpless like sheep without a shepherd, your move with compassion. So we pray that you would baptize us with compassion. We pray that you would give us your eyes to see the lost around us and give us your beating heart for the loss. So we invite you to soften our hearts, Lord, break our hearts, give us the gift of tears and disrupt us where we’re just doing same old, same old, with a fresh revelation of your grace in mercy towards us. That we might not be like the older brother, but we would have your heart. Jesus, the faithful and true brother who came on a mission to rescue the lost because we asked this in your name for your glory. Amen.

To the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. I have a very special guest Raphael Anzenberger. He is from France, and he has been working for God in the Francophone countries. Thank you so much for being with me today.

Raphael Anzenberger (01:19):
Thank you for having me on the program.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:21):
And so let’s start by talking about what God is doing in the French speaking world, especially in the area of evangelism.

Raphael Anzenberger (01:31):
So French speaking world, for those who are not too familiar with it’s 320 million people, it’s spending over three continents, Europe, of course Africa and in Canada and also the Pacific islands. And for the longest time we’ve been perceived rightly so as a mission field, but today I’m happy to report that we are known also as a mission force and no longer as a mission field because God has has been gracious to us in raising a new generation of evangelists who are bringing the gospel into an unreached people group in Asia in places where it’s not possible to travel there with a missionary visa.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:16):
So talk to us about where there are centers of French speaking people around the world, especially in some of the, the, the African nations and, and where is French? The language that is, is spoken.

Raphael Anzenberger (02:30):
So those, those centers, those AP centers where evangelists go out starting from Africa, you have two centers, Abijah of course, ivory coast. Then you have Kinsa then moving to Europe Geneva, Paris, and brussel, and then moving to Canada Montreal. So those would be the places and the cities where you will encounter evangelist ministry, evangelistic ministry, raising evangelist, and then sending them out into the harvest.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:02):
Now you completed your doctoral research and you looked at the incubation of evangelists. Tell us kind of the focus of your research and then what you discovered.

Raphael Anzenberger (03:16):
So the idea is that how do we multiply more evangelists for the harvest? Right when I joined the ministry back 20 years ago there was four of us evangelists for the whole French speaking world. When we did the math 320 million divided by four, we said, well, there’s room for a couple more. And we’d recited to raise a hundred evangelists within 10 years, very aggressive goal, right? And for that, we had to come up with an, an incubator a two year incubator by which we could raise up a cohort of 10 a year amount to a hundred after 10 years. And that program was very successful. And it was really God’s grace on that. We, we took best practices from different programs, but we tailor it Danielle, especially for what I call pro evangelists among professionals, right?

Raphael Anzenberger (04:08):
We have professional evangelists who are making that a full time ministry, but what we were interesting in raising those a hundred is also looking how we raise evangelists among professionals, teachers people in the fashion industry, in politics, in government and so forth. And I must tell you, Danielle, that those evangelists among professionals are sometime even better more enthused than some of the professional evangelists that, that we are. And it was really excited to see this new generation of, of evangelists coming up through the program and, and then making inroads being recognized by the local church or ministries and being really released into the harvest. And as I was mentioning before, we, we also had the privilege of seeing some of our young evangelists, especially female evangelists, going to places like Afghanistan and north, north Africa, very, very scary places for women to go. And today they’re raising evangelists in those countries and replicating some of the things that we have put together in this incubator.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:14):
Talk to me about the incubation process. If someone has a heart for evangelism, they feel like that maybe God would use them in that area. How do you bring them to the point where they are bold in sharing their faith and preaching the gospel and even training others in evangelism?

Raphael Anzenberger (05:34):
So the program basically runs with, with three core biblical values. The first year is dedicated to godly character. Okay. ish, Barza great. Evangelist German in Germany said, I evangelist all character is Anina. So an evangelist without a character is a criminal <laugh>. So, so evangelist often they come through our incubators and, and they, they want to talk about technique and methodology. And well, we start from a vanish point that if they’re evangelist, they’re leading people to Christ. Anyway, the number one danger is themselves. They have to root their life in godly character. So the first year is dedicated towards this life of prayer, life of faith, spiritual disciplines, building godly character in your life. And then once we move into the second year, then we look at the second core value of the program, which is doxological motivations. What is this?

Raphael Anzenberger (06:36):
Doxological motivation is that we don’t want them to build an empire. We don’t want them to think about themselves taking a selfie with a big crowd behind staging themselves as the savior with the messianic syndrome. We want to see doxological motivations. The reason why they would enter into the ministry is to partner with others in bringing more people to Christ, bringing people like Christ for Christ and to Christ. So we’re looking for, as we are questioning their motif, why do you want to, why do you wanna be an evangelist? Do you want to build your own ministry or do you wanna be part of God’s great family of evangelists and then last third core value of the program towards the end of the incubation is kingdom vision. And here we help them understand and reflect on what cause is calling them towards some think about starting a ministry among street homeless people.

Raphael Anzenberger (07:35):
And because of our network, then we, we put them in link with others who are also doing the same kind of things this way. They can build synergies and it could be kingdom mindset versus empire mindset. So those three core values, you know, Golic character doxological motivation and kingdom vision are, are, are the three pieces that make this incubation fruit. And at the end, we wanna see them thrive as evangelist. And then they come in the back end of it, providing ongoing training and ongoing spiritual formation so that they continue to last in the ministry. Also, one thing we asked them to do Danielle is to look for other evangelists. And that’s the power of multiplication very quickly in the program. We said, do identify emerging evangelists around you, even if you’re 23, 25, look for 10 years younger than you and start walking with them.

Raphael Anzenberger (08:29):
And I’ve seen this girl Daniel incredible story. She was 22 years old when she joined our program. And she said, you know, I’m, I’m coming from Switzerland. I’m an alien people don’t understand what I’m speaking. They think I’m weird. And it said, okay, what is your problem? Say, well, I’m, I’m the first time I, I shared, I, I had a dramatic encounter with Jesus. And the first time I shared that with my friends, 20 wanted to receive him in their heart. And I went to my pastor and he said, you’re weird. I don’t know what to do with you. And can you help me? I said, yeah, I think you’re an evangelist. Welcome to the tribe. Right? As soon as she was into the program, she was already replicating everything. We taught her to 50 younger evangelists who were between 15 and 20 years old. And so the power of multiplication, that’s what we tell them. An evangelist said, CWAs, a famous mythologist is not concerned about the crowd that is able to gather is concerned about the number of vacations vocations that he’s able to rise in his lifetime. And for that, I’m, I’m thankful for Billy Graham and, and repel out and all those organizations who, who sought not just to portray what an evangelist is and should be, but also raise up new generations of evangelists.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:47):
Let’s talk about Europe. Some people have said that Europe is a post-Christian continent, but I think that God still has great love for Europe. What do you see God wants to do in on the continent of Europe?

Raphael Anzenberger (10:02):
Well, my people might be surprised to, to know that in France, we are opening a church every seven days. It’s, it’s quite it’s quite phenomenal in Spain. They’re opening up a church every three days. So <laugh> contrary to some people perceiving Europe as a, as a, as a, as a cemetery for mission for missionaries. It is actually a strong mission force. And we’re seeing fast, rapid multiplication of churches and disciples. Even in the us we get a lot of requests to bring European evangelists to do evangelism in the us because we are very familiar and at ease with the secular society, right? This been where we’ve been for the last 20 years in Europe. We’re not scared to go with people who are against Christians. We love atheist. We love to debate with them. We love to win them for Christ. And in a sense it’s a joy to see friends like John Lennox, for instance, who is continuing being invited in the us to, to tackle university lecturers or trying to kill Christianity. And, and Europeans who’ve been there for 50 years and we know how to tackle them. So are very much encouraged by what’s going on in Europe.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:23):
You have used a term, which I find very intriguing polycentric missions. Tell me, what do you mean by that in how is that affecting what God is doing in the world?

Raphael Anzenberger (11:36):
So when we talked about missions going back to the 19 20th century, it was a movement that was primarily centered first on Europe. And then later on in the 20th century, especially after 1950 solidly anchored in the us. And what you would see is, is missionaries being raised and then doing missions out of Europe or out of the us to the ends of the earth right now, west pretty much the paradigm all the way to the end of the 20th century. And what happened is that after years and decades and centuries of missions into majority world countries, those churches who received the gospel through those missionaries decided to bring back the gospel where it was first sent from. So we’ve seen for instance, Africa having a heart to do missions in Europe. We’ve seen people in Brazil, in Argentina, Costa Rica having a heart to bring the gospel to Asia.

Raphael Anzenberger (12:47):
We’ve seen people in Asia having the heart to bring the gospel in Canada. And so today we are seeing the emergence of those centers of missions anchored in the majority world and without any complex, and they raise the funds, they train the missionaries and they send them out into places that were once sending centers for missions. And I find that very exciting to collaborate with my friends from Nigeria, from Zaa, from Singapore, the Philippines, you know that Danielle, I don’t know if, if people know that, but the country who is sending the most missionaries per Christians in a country is Jordan in the middle east. And I’m finding that absolutely astounding that those who were once on the recipient end of missions, decide today to be the ones who are sending their sons and daughters. So that Christ may be known all the way even to Europe.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:53):
Yeah. It used to be that the west would send missionaries to the rest, but now we see the best going to the rest and the best are being raised up all over the world. God is moving so much in the, the global south, and I’m so thankful for their passion for God and in their heart for evangelism. And you are actually moving soon to one of the, the biggest, greatest mission fields that there is my wife is from Canada. And, and so we have been praying for French speaking, Canada for Quebec, and very low percentage of Christians, but tell us what you are hoping that God will do in Canada.

Raphael Anzenberger (14:36):
Well, thank you for asking about that. Danielle it’s I’ve been ministering in, in French speaking, Canada which basically is, is, is all the four provinces on the east, but all the provinces on the west and the central side. And it’s been Catholic because it was French and then attached to France versus English picking Canada. There was more Protestant with the collapse of the Catholic church and all the scandals. People got mad with the church. Did you know that the past year they destroyed 750 churches?

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (15:12):
I mean, yeah, my, my wife is from Warrenville Alberta and there was a beautiful Catholic church right in the middle of the town last year, someone burned it down and I was looking at the, the comments and some people were saying, oh, that’s horrible. But then there were so many comments that people say, yes, that church deserved it because of what they have done. It’s, it’s a tragedy.

Raphael Anzenberger (15:32):
It is. It is. I mean, if in France, if people would even, even if, if people wanted to destroy churches, atheists would come and say, well, you can’t do that is part of our historical landmarks, but in Quebec, I mean, they send bulldozers, they flip churches into apartment complex without anyone actually seeing that as being wrong. Which tells you that I think it’s one of the most advanced secular society that I’ve known and I’m traveling quite extensively. I, I remember seeing just not long ago, an interview of a guy in the streets of Montreal asking young people who Jesus is, and, and they, they had blank <laugh> they were looking at Jesus who I said, Jesus of Nazareth. No don’t know the dude. Where does he live? I thought, I thought it was a joke. I thought it was a cameras, you know, filming somewhere. It was not actually religion. Christian religion has been eradicated even transforming the national Christian days of celebration to first nations or, or other kinds of terminology, a systemic eradication of Christian languages. The first one that I’ve seen that somewhere that is done so well in French speaking Canada, but the good news is, is that people still all come to Christ because I don’t care how much secularized society is. Jesus can still reach out to them.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (17:05):

What is an evangelist? What does an evangelist do? What character in the Bible is a good example for the evangelist to follow all these questions and more are answered in today’s podcast.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:51):
Hello, this is Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus. Are you called by God to be an evangelist? Do you want to lead million of people to Jesus? Do you desire to be trained in the practical side of building a ministry? I don’t know if you know this, but I have an online school of mass evangelism and I’ve taken all of my teachings, my videos, a lot of my raw writings, even several books that I haven’t even published yet. And I’ve put all this material into an online school, designed to train people who are called to be mass evangelist. You know, there’s several different types of evangelism. You have personal one on, on one evangelism. And I really believe in that. I think every single evangelist should be good at sharing the gospel one-on-one with people, but then there’s some people who are called to preach to masses of people, thousands and thousands of people.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:58):
And there’s not very much training material available for those who are called to mass evangelism. And so in today’s podcast episode, I want to take you behind the scenes into one of the sessions that I have recorded in my school of mass evangelism. You can also find links to the school at our ministry website, king ministries.com. And there’s lots of great material in there for anybody who’s called to be an, but on today’s podcast. I’m gonna take you behind the scenes to one of the sessions where I deal with the question, what is an evangelist? And I’m gonna look at the biblical meaning of the evangelist all the different times in the Bible that the evangelist has mentioned. And I’m also going to look at Philip, the evangelist, the only person in the whole Bible, who is specifically called an evangelist, and we’re gonna find out what we can learn from his story. So join me today and let’s find out what is an evangelist?

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:23):
What is an evangelist? The word evangelist actually comes from the Greek word Angus, which comes from the root word Ang Elon, which is the word for gospel ends. So this word Ang Gallion comes from the Greek word onus. And so you might be familiar with the word S we have it in Spanish, and you may have heard of the city of Los Angeles. It comes from that word. Los Angeles means the angels. The word onus means angel or messenger. And so the rule root word of the evangelist is a messenger. Someone who brings a message and the picture in the Greek is of a person who is a runner, and he’s been in a big battle and their side has won a great victory against the in. And so the king calls this runner and says to him, I want you to run back to our home city.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:27):
And I want you to tell the people that are anxiously waiting, the outcome is about, I want you to tell them that we have won a great victory. And so this guy starts running just as fast as he can. He’s he’s running. He is the marathon runner and, and he gets back to their home city and he’s just breathing as hard as can be. And they’re like, what’s what happened? Did we win? Did we lose? You know, are we all gonna die? Are we gonna be taken into slavery? You know what happened? Everyone’s there around him, anxiously waiting. He’s trying to catch his breath. And then he shouts out the good news. He says, Hey, we won the victory.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:03):
And so that is the picture of the evangelist. The evangelist is someone who comes and says, Hey, guess what? The enemy has been defeated. Satan has no more power anymore. We have won the victory. And so that is the picture of the evangelist. And so the word evangelist is mentioned three times in the Bible. I wanna look at these three times that the evangelist has mentioned the first passage, which I know you’re familiar with is Ephesians chapter four, verse 11. And this is the, the verse that talks about the fivefold ministry gifts. It says it was Jesus who gave some to be apostles, some, to be prophets, some, to be evangelists, praise the Lord, and some to be pastors and teachers to prepare God’s people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:08):
And so you’ll notice here in this passage, you’ve got five ministry gifts. You got the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors, and the teacher. And, and so the, the evangelistic gift is, is one of the, the fivefold ministry gifts. And of course there are other ministry gifts besides these five, in other parts of Paul’s writings, he talks about the gifts of administration gifts of encouragement, just different gifts that are available. But the evangelist, I think is one of those key gifts that are definitely needed in the body of Christ. And unfortunately, the evangelistic gift right now is weak in the body of Christ. And I don’t know quite why that is, but you know, like back in the forties and fifth, these here in America, we had some really great evangelist that was during the voice of healing movement.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:03):
You had people like, Oral Roberts, like RW Schambach like AA Allen, like William Branham that were traveling around bridge. And they really flowed really strong in the evangelist gift, but it seems like we’ve entered a new period where now probably the strongest gift is the, the role of the pastor, the, the, the pastor of a church. And I think that it’s good that the pastor is strong, but I think that the evangelistic gift also needs to be strong in the body of Christ. The second place where the evangelist is has mentioned is second Timothy chapter four, verse five.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:46):
This is Paul giving advice to a spiritual son, Timothy. He says, but you keep your head in all situations and do her hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. And so here, Paul is giving Timothy advice. He says, do the work of evangelist. Now at this time, Paul was actually a pastor. He was the pastor of the church in Ephesus was, was probably would be considered a megachurch back in those days. Mary mother of Jesus had moved to ESUs. Many of the apostles made their home there. There are probably 20,000 believers in Ephesus and, and Tim was serving as their pastor. And so even though he’s a pastor, Paul specifically tells him do the work of an evangelist. And so this tells me that every single one of the ministry gifts should do the work of an evangelist.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:42):
We found that there is a, the gift or the office of the evangelist, but there’s also something that every single believer is called to do. And we find that command in the great commission, mark 16, 15 says, go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. That command is not just given to a select few it’s given to every disciple of Jesus. How many of your disciples of Jesus? That means that you’re called to do the work of an evangelist. Now, one thing you’re going to discover when we’re down in the nation of Haiti, is that doing the work of an evangelist involves lots of work. Mm-Hmm, <affirmative>, it’s gonna be hot. You’re gonna be sweaty. You’re gonna get tired. We’re, we’re gonna work you as hard as we can, cuz we’re only there for one week and we want to make it hard for people to go to hell from Haiti that week that we’re there.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:32):
Amen. We don’t want a single person in Haiti to go to. And so we’re gonna work you as hard as we possibly can. You’re gonna wake up early, pray hard, work, hard minister, hard, go to bed late, and we’re gonna have a little bit of fun while we’re doing it. And so it’s gonna be great but just just know that it it’s hard work. And so sometimes when people look at the Evangel and think, oh, you know, it’s it, they’re the ones that it up in front of a big crowd. And they preach the people, you know, he preaches for 45 minutes. How hard could that be? But really doing that is only the tip of the iceberg. It’s probably only about 10% of the work. There’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes of what it means to be an evangelist.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:13):
And, and so all the, that gets the people there, that’s hard work doing all the, the team coordination and all that stuff. That’s hard work. And then probably one of the, the biggest works that the Evangel has to do is to raise money in, in order to do it really honestly, anybody can preach is not hard to preach. What’s hard is paying for the platform that you’re preaching on. And, and so I think that that’s an area that we all need to grow on, grow in is, is raising money and, and getting peop other people involved and having the money in to be able to do the ministry that God has called us to do. And so we’ll be talking about that some more later on today. So Paul tells Timothy to do the work of the evangelist and then in acts chapter 21, verse eight, the last time that an evangelist is mentioned is specifically calling Philip an evangelist X 21 verse eight says leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip, the evangelist, one of seven, he had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:31):
And so of all the people in the Bible only Philip is specifically called and to evangelist. He worked in this ministry as an evangelist. Now the fact that the word for evangelist is only mentioned three times is not meant to demean the office of the evangelist. The title of Bishop is only used three times. Deacon is found twice and amazingly given the current prominence of the position in the body of Christ, the word pastor only occurs one time in the entire Bible. Do you know where it’s found? We just read it a minute ago in Ephesians, the, the that’s the only play is the word pastor has found now that the concept of being a shepherd to people is found in more places, but the word pastors only found once. And so the root word for evangelist is Ang Gallion, which is the Greek word for gospel.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:26):
And this word is actually used 74 times in the new Testament. And then the, the verb form is used in additional 52 times. And so Jesus is actually the first evangelist in the new Testament. Since it says that he went about preaching the good news, the Ang Gallion of the gospel. And so he preached the good news. Therefore he functioned in this office as an evangelist and even the angels went, they proclaimed that Jesus had been born. They proclaimed good news. That was great joy to all the people. And so if that word, good news again is the word Ang Gallion. And even the early church was full of evangelists. And in acts eight four, it says that they preached the word wherever they went. So they went about preaching. God’s word, evangelists are in rare supply, but we need more evangelists. I, I think sometimes the evangelistic gift has been misunderstood in the body of Christ.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:22):
Some people think that the evangelist is just an itinerant preacher, either. You’re a pastor and you got a place where you preach every week, or if you not a pastor, then they call you an evangelist and you to, as you’re, you’re a traveler. And so it is true that the evangelist is called to travel, but not every traveling minister functions in the office, some people they travel and they preach, and their primary focus is on helping people to have healthy marriages. Well, that’s a good message. That’s a good thing to preach. Having a healthy marriage is something the body of Christ needs, but someone who primarily preaches on marriages, isn’t an evangelist. Some people travel and teach on finances and, and teach about seed faith and, and giving and that type of thing. And so a lot of them call themselves evangelists, but they’re not true evangelists.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:13):
The office of the evangelists, the primary focus of the, the office of the evangelist is to get lost people saved. Mm-Hmm <affirmative>, that is the focus of the evangelist. And that should be your focus if, if you’re called to be in evangelist evangelists are not just preachers looking for a meeting sometimes at a pastor’s conference, you know at Ram they’ve got the, the, the great winter Bible seminar. And, and so sometimes, you know, all the pastors come and, and they try to stay away from the evangelists cuz they think the evangelists are just coming and trying to look for, for a meeting. But the true evangelist is not just looking for a meeting. The true evangelist is looking for a lost soul. And then some people have gotten confused about the evangelist because they, they think that any TV, preacher is an evangelist.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (15:05):
In fact, they call them televangelist. And when you hear the word televangelist, you get this picture of someone with a lick back hair and I got this gold suit on and they said, send me your money, send me your money now. You know? And, and, and so a lot of people go on TV and say, we’re reaching the world, but they’re not really reaching the world. They’re just asking people for money. And unfortunately that’s given a bad name to the evangelist, but I think that it’s time for the evangelist gift to rise back up in the body of Christ. We need more evangelists and, and, and so the evangelist is one who preaches the good news. What is an evangelist? The evangelist leads the loss to Christ. The evangelist, equips equips, the saints for evangelism. The evangelist reaches out to both individuals and multitudes evangelists preach the simple gospel.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (15:59):
They don’t preach the latest, greatest brand new flavor of the week. Sometimes people are always looking for the brand new message, something that no one’s ever heard before, but really the evangelist focuses on the simple gospel. What gospel it’s that we’re all sinners. Jesus died for our sin, Jesus rose from the dead and everyone who calls on Jesus can be saved from their sin. And that’s very basic. And, and, and there’s a lot of different ways of saying that, but the more simple it is, the easier it is for lost people to understand and to come to Christ. Another sign of the evangelist is signs and wonders. Healing. Miracles. Evangelists are a shining light in the midst of a dark world. They’re like spiritual obstetricians who give birth to new believers. They are the advertising agency of God’s kingdom. The evangelists are like the elite Navy seals who are the first to head into enemy territory.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (16:56):
They’re like shock troops on the front lines of the battle for lost souls. They are farmers who are focused on plowing ground sewing seeds and reaping a harvest. And so if you can imagine the, the battles that the United States has fought like for example we invaded Iraq in the, the first Gulf war. The Navy seals went in under cover of night. They were the first ones to land and they had specific missions to fulfill. They, they had to go in, blow up certain things, attack certain areas get, take over some of the radar sites. I mean they, and they snuck in and, and they were the first, they were the elite they’d been trained. And so that is the job of the evangelist. The evangelist doesn’t sit around where it’s comfortable. The evangelist is often the first one to go into an area before the apostle, before the pastor, before there’s any churches there, the evangelist is the one who goes in and, and makes an impact before anybody else can come.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:01):
And, and he’s like the, he opens the door for the gospel to start breaking forth in an area. I all right. Let’s look at the office of the evangelist in the new Testament. And so the only person in the new Testament who specifically called an evangelist is Philip. And so let’s look at the life of Philip. The first time he’s mentioned is in acts chapter six versus is one through seven. It says in those days when the number of disciples was increasing the Greason Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the 12 gathered all the disciples together and said it would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables, brothers choose seven men from amongst you who are known to be full of the spirit and wisdom.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:55):
We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word, this proposal, please, the whole group. They chose Steven, a man full of faith and of the holy spirit, also Philip, and then six other people or five other people. They presented these men to the apostles who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the apostles, the, the 11 apostles plus the replacement for Judas, the 12 apostles, they were so busy preaching the word that they’re also trying to feed all the widows, feed all the people, the hungry. And so apparently one group of widows wasn’t getting the food they should have been getting. And the apostles they decided, you know, we need to be focused on studying God’s word, preaching, God’s word. And they said, we need some people that would be willing to serve.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (19:48):
And so they looked around and found people that were full of holy spirit that were willing, that were full of wisdom. And so Philip met all of these requirements. Philip was full of the holy spirit. He was full of wisdom and he was willing to be used by God and noticed that his ministry started with him being a servant. He, he just found a plea place to serve, just bringing food to the widows. And I think this is where a lot of ministries get started. In fact, every healthy ministry, this is where they get started. And I think it’s very important to continually keep that heart of a servant throughout ministry and, and be willing to do whatever it takes to get the, a job done. A lot of people wanna be, you know, the, the big man on stage, but really God is looking for people who are willing to reach out to the cripple who are willing to help serve the food, willing to clean the toilets.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (20:49):
And God’s looking for that type of person. Apparently Philip was that type of person. So that’s where his ministry got started. And then the next time we see Philip at work is in acts chapter eight. Verse one on that day, a great persecution broke out against the church at Jeru and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. So acts one eight, Jesus gave the promise, but you shall receive power after the holy spirit comes upon you and you shall be witnesses onto me and Jerusalem Juda Samaria into the uttermost ends of the earth. So Jesus gave them the specific command and acts one eight, and it takes all, all the way until acts eight, chapter one chapter eight, verse one for that command to start to be fulfilled up until acts chapter eight. All of the disciples are in Jerusalem.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (21:39):
Everybody that’s getting saved is in Jerusalem. They stand in Jerusalem, but suddenly this great persecution breaks out and people begin to scatter all, all over. So they go to Judea, they go to Samaria and then eventually we’ll see that they end up at the uttermost ends of the earth. And so godly men buried Stephen and mourn deeply for him. You remember that he was, he was stoned, but Saul began to destroy the church going from house to house. He dragged off men and women and put them in prison. Then verse four, those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs, he did, they all paid close attention to what he said with shrieks evil spirits came outta many in many paralytics and cripples were healed.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (22:29):
So there was great joy in that city. So it says that Philip went down to Samaria. Samaria was full of Samaritans, who didn’t really get along with Jews now in John chapter four, Jesus ministered to the Samaritan woman and the whole village there got saved and, and, and were excited about Jesus. And so apparently there were some that heard about Jesus, but Jesus had given the command go to Samaria. Well, no one had gone until Philip went there. And so Philip goes down. He starts preaching among the Samaritans and look at what he did. He proclaimed crime there. And so the work of the evangelist is to proclaim Christ, to preach Jesus. That is the primary message of the evangelist. There’s many different things that people can preach on. You can preach on faith. You can preach on marriage. You can preach on finances.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (23:26):
You can preach on seven reasons why Jesus is coming soon, you know, but really the, the, the focus of the evangelist is preaching Christ. Jesus said, if I be lifted up, I will draw all man onto me. And so it says that when the crowns heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs, he did, they all paid close attention to what he said. And so here we have two different characteristics of the evangelistic ministry. First of all, is multitudes. And second is miracles. And so I believe anytime someone is operating in an Evangel, you’re gonna see multitudes and you’re gonna see miracles. And so I’m believing that we’re gonna see both when we’re in the nation of Haiti, we’re gonna see multitudes of people coming, and we’re gonna see great miracles. And it’s because there’s a specific anointing on the evangelist to do that to see miracles happen.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (24:25):
I think that God uses miracles in order to draw people to, to hear the good news. Marilyn Hickey told me that miracles are the dinner bell that draw people to the banqueting table of heaven. And then notice, it says with shrieks, evil spirits came outta many, many paralytics and cripples were healed. And, and so the evangelistic gift is also given to confront demonic powers. And so he counts demons, outta many people. And then it says there was great joy in that city. And, and so this is another characteristic of the evangelistic. Many industry is it brings great joy. We were in the nation of India doing a big evangelistic event. And we were out in this rural area where there are lots of farmers and many of the farmers were extremely poor. They didn’t have anything. And I read that many of these farmers, they would go into debt in order to buy sea eat and they plant their seed.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (25:28):
And then if there was any problem with the harvest, if it rained too early, or it didn’t rain at all, or if rats came and ate their harvest they wouldn’t have money to pay back the debt. And, and so the, they would be hounded by these, these debt collectors who would come and, and, and say, Hey, you gotta pay back their debt. And so a bunch of these farmers were committing suicide because they couldn’t pay back their debt. In fact, in, in that area, like over 2000 people had committed suicide over the last 10 year period. And, and so when we came the first night we started preaching and the people just sat there and stared at us like a, a cow looking at a new gate. I mean, he’s just looking at, I mean, they didn’t break a smile. They didn’t clap with us during the songs.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (26:16):
They didn’t sing. Like there were no miracles the first night nothing happened. And so second night, same thing, third night, same thing. Like, I would pray for the, and say, please come and tell me what Jesus has done for you. And, and no one would come and, and I’d preach again and pray again, and nothing was happening. And, and so finally by the third night, one guy came up, he says I was sitting way in the back and I was blind. And on the first night I, I saw a light and, and then I was able to see, and he says, and, and so I didn’t want to come up on the first. I wanna see whether it was really real. So he says, I waited two nights to see whether my miracle was real, but I, I wanna tell everyone now that I can see Jesus says, heal me.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (27:02):
I’m like, why don’t you come up the first night would, it really helped, helped me out. I was feeling lonely up there. And, and so this guy comes up and, and gives his testimony. And then another person comes up and gives her, and then another person and another person. And so by the, the final night, the fifth night of the crusade we had great joy that filled that place through a mirror, uncles taking place all over the place like popcorn, just God was touching people and, and the people got up and they started to celebrate. They started to dance. We were singing songs. Everyone was clapping. They were laughing. And it was the joy of the Lord that filled that place. And so it was just like in the book of acts, it says, great joy filled the city and are gonna see that in the nation of Haiti, we’re gonna see the city filled with great joy, hallelujah, verse nine.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (27:52):
It says now for some time a man named Simon had practiced Sourcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samara. He boasted that he was someone great. And all the people both high and low gave him their attention explained this man is the power. No one as the great power, they followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic. But when they believed Philip, as he preached the good news, the kingdom of God, in the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women, Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw. And so there is real miracles and there’s counterfeit miracles. And, and in the nation of Haiti voodoo is one of the primary religions. Some of the people are Christians. Some of the people practice a form of voodoo.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (28:40):
Some people combine Christianity and voodoo and, and counter practice both. But last time that we were there, we set up a big barrel and we invited all the people to bring all their voodoo idols and fetishes and different things that they used to worship. And they threw ’em into the barrels. And then we lit them on fire and, and, and burned all of those things up. And so you kind of see this happening with this sun, him in the sourcer, same thing where he’s amazed at the mayor and says, Hey, I want this. And so he goes, he believes he’s baptized. And when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they arrived, they prayed for them. And they, that they might receive the holy spirit because the holy spirit had not yet come upon.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (29:23):
Any of them, they’d simply been baptized in the name of the Lord, Jesus, then Peter and John placed their hands on them. And they received the holy spirit. And so I think this is a real important point. After Philip went, there, began to preach. He was the evangelist. He was breaking the ground up. Then when God began to move, the apostles came from Jerusalem. And so Peter and John come and, and began praying for people to be filled with a holy spirit. And so one of the number one questions that evangelist get I’ve, I’ve heard it a million times is what do you do about follow up? And it’s always very question, well, what do you do about follow? You, get all these people saved and then you leave. And what do you do about follow? Well, I think that the biblical model is right here, that the, the evangelist goes, he preaches the gospel, multitudes miracles, people get saved, but he works in teamwork with other giftings in the body of Christ.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (30:22):
And so along behind the evangelist comes the prophet, the pastor, the teacher, the apostle, these other evangelist gifts to help in discipling the people. And so I always do everything I possibly can to do about, to do follow up. I mean, we don’t want any spiritual abortions, people to that get saved and then follow away. We wanna follow up on them. But it’s not something that the evangelist is called to do alone. It is for every ministry gift to, to be involved in, in the follow up of the new believers. And so that’s why in Haiti, we’re gonna work very closely with the local believers. We’re gonna be doing training for the local pastors be because we wanted ha something in them that helps with following up on the people that that get say. And, and so we’re not in this by ourselves, we’re working with other churches, other pastors, as many people as we can in Haiti, we’ve invited all the pastors of Porter princes to come together for our pastors training seminar.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (31:23):
And so I believe that they are the ones that are primarily responsible for the, the follow up of the new believers verse 18. When Simon saw that the spirit was given at the length on of the apostles hands, he offered them money and said, give me also this abilities that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the holy spirit. Peter answered may your money perish with you because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money. You have no partner share in this ministry because your heart is not right before God repent of this willingness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. If I see that you’re full of bitterness and captive to sin, then Simon answered pray to the Lord for me. So that nothing you have said may happen to me when testified in proclaim the word of the Lord, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (32:10):
And so we see that because of what Philip went, did that now the gospel can spread to that entire region and all the Samaritan villages hear the good news. And so it’s very interesting that this source or Simon tries to buy the gift of God with money and with the focus of some ministers on money. I think that today there would be some ministers that would take it, say, yeah, give me a, gimme a thousand dollars and I’ll lay hands on. You I’ll pray for you. But Peter and John, they shut it down immediately. They say, you know, and they’re, they’re disgusted with him and say, you have no part or share in this ministry because your heart’s not right before God. And so the evangelist is not motivated by money. He’s motivated by souls. He’s motivated going after people and in rescuing people from hell, then verse 26.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (33:02):
Now an angel, the Lord said to Philip, go south to the road, the desert road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. So he started out and on his way, he met an Ethiopian Munich, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem, the worship, and on his way, home was sitting in his chariot, reading the book of Isaiah, the prophet, the spirit told Philip go to that chariot and stay near it. And so in the thinking of this time, Ethiopia was on the ends of the earth. It was the very edge here in this chapter. We, we see the fulfillment of the act chapter one, verse eight. First, the gospel goes from Jerusalem into Judea, then onto Samaria. And now it’s going to an Ethiopian Munich, the uttermost ends of the earth.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (33:57):
And so the writer of the book of acts, which is Luke, he puts it here specifically to show the fulfillment of this prophecy that Jesus gave in acts one eight. And so this Ethiopian unit, he goes to the temple or to Jerusalem to worship. And so history tells us that the queen of Sheba, you remember the story came to meet Solomon. And she went back. And when she went back, she took some Jews with her back to Ethiopia. And, and so apparently there were still people there still Jews that worshiped yawe the, the God of Israel. And so he came to worship, but when he came to the temple, there was a problem because in Leviticus, it tells us, first of all, that no foreigner is, is allowed to worship in the temple. And second in Leviticus, it tells us that no one who is MAED is allowed to worship in the temple.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (34:52):
And so this man is a UNIC and he is MAED, he’s got this serious injury. And so because of this, he has to stand outside the temple area. He came all the way Jerusalem, but you can tell he’s very curious. And, and he, he, he buys the book of Isaiah, which back then would’ve been the equivalent of two or three years wages. I mean, so, you know, you can imagine spending a huge amount, be like buying a book for 50, 60, $70,000. He’s spending on, on this book of Isaiah and he’s in his cherry driving back home. And he’s curious. And so he’s reading, he wants to know everything he can about God. And so God specifically gives Philip the evangelist, an instruction, go down to the desert road. Now here, Philip is he’s ministering in Samaria and there’s multitudes of people getting saved. And suddenly God speaks to him and says, go down to the desert road.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (35:46):
Now, this is a very surprising instruction to give to someone who’s ministering to the multitudes, because you know, Philip’s thinking, God, the desert, there’s not many people that go on the desert road. It’s hot out there. There’s why, why am I going down to the desert road? You know, I’m here. I have a ministry right here. I mean, surely it would be better for me to stay here in this area, ministering to these multitudes and go, but the evangelist is called to the multitudes, but then also the evangelist is called to individuals. And so you’ll see someone who operates in the evangelistic gift operating in both of these arenas. Sometimes they will minister to multitudes of people, but then they should equally be willing to minister one on one to people when God gives them the instruction to do that. And so I would say that if you’re not willing to minister to the one, then God will never put you on the platform ministering to thousands.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (36:44):
And if you’re on the platform ministering to thousands, but you’re not willing to minister to the one, you, you really shouldn’t be up there. And so the important thing is to be obedient to God. Amen. So verse 30 Philip ran up to the cherry and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. Do you understand what you’re reading? Philip asked? How can I, he said, unless someone explains it to me. So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. The UN was reading the passage of scripture. He was like a sheep to the slaughter and his land before the sheer silent. So he did not open his mouth and his humiliation. He was deprived of justice who can speak of his descendants for his life was taken from the earth. The unit ask Philip, tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about himself or someone else.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (37:23):
Then Philip began with that very passage of scripture and told him that good news about Jesus. And so here, once again, we see the evangelist sharing the message of Jesus Christ. And so he starts writing that passage of scripture. And so I, it doesn’t matter where an evangelist starts, his message. He’s gonna end up talking about Jesus, even if an evangelist gets up and is preaching about marriage or, or something like that, the true evangelist will bring it all back to Jesus and talk about Jesus. And so that’s the primary message of the evangelist. As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the UN said, look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized? And so suddenly this Munich has this revelation. He’s hearing about Jesus and see in the old covenant, he was a foreigner and he was MAED. He wasn’t allowed to worship, but under the new covenant, none of that matters anymore.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (38:22):
And so he sees the water and he says, why shouldn’t I be baptized? Is anything stopping me from being baptized? And Phillip says, no. And so immediately he gives orders to stop the chair. The both Phillip and the unit went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away and the unit did not see him again, but went on his way, rejoicing. And so earlier we see the city of Samaria, rejoicing, great joy, Philip, the city. And now when the individual get saved, we see the individual rejoicing, Philip, however, appeared at AOSIS and traveled about preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea in Caesarea is where we see him later in acts chapter 21 and he’s ministering there. And so the evangelist he comes in he obeys God.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (39:17):
He ministers to the Ethiopian unit and then Philip disappears. The spirit catches him away. We call this Philip flying, he fly and I keep asking God and say, God, I spend so much money on airlines. Why don’t you just take me to where I’m supposed to preach <laugh> but he appears it in, in another town. He immediately starts preaching in the hospital there. And he appears in a town that’s about 40 miles from the desert road where he was, he was ministering here to the Ethiopian unit. And, and so a lot of people have criticized the evangelists. They say, the evangelist just blows him, blows up. It blows out. But that’s essentially what Philip does here. That model is biblical. The evangelist here, he, he comes, he ministers and then immediately the spirit catches him away and he goes to another place. And, and, and so I think the evangelist is, is, is a special ambassador for the kingdom of Ghana.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (40:10):
He goes into a place ministers and then the next week he’s somewhere else ministering. And so God sends the evangelist different places to, to right where he’s needed. And the amazing thing is, is that the Ethiopian unit, he goes back to Ethiopia and he was a significant official, he was the treasurer of all the treasury. And so he had a lot of influence there. He began telling people about Jesus and now Ethiopia historically is a Christian nation. And there are millions of people who are Christians today in Ethiopia because of this Ethiopian unit. And so if you can reach this one person, Phil, the Evangel reach this one person, and because of him, the entire nation of Ethiopia got saved. And so there you have a, of the evangelistic ministry. And one more thing I’d like to point out in acts 21. It says that he had four daughters, they were all virgins and they all prophesy.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (41:08):
And so the evangelist he takes good care of his family. He doesn’t abandon them. He takes good care of his family. They’re virgins, which means they’re not running around sleeping with every guy that comes come, you know, they’re the virgins. And they prophesy. They, they work with their father in the ministry. And so I’m a big believer that God does not just call individuals. He calls families and the, the anointing that is on one member of the family comes upon every member of that family. And so I think this is very important in, in your marriage that you don’t do it alone, but that your spouse is right there with you. My, my wife and I we minister together and we love ministering together. And now we have two kids. We got three year old boy, Caleb, and a one year old girl, Katie grace, and, and you know, I want them to be amazing ministers and, and just like the four daughters of Philip to that prophesy. All right, let’s pray dearly father. I thank you for the, the gift of the evangelist for the body of Christ. Lord, I pray that each person here who’s called to be an evangelist would begin walking in the fullness of that gift. And, and father, I pray that even those that aren’t called to be an evangelist would begin to do the work of an evangelist and that they would see many people get saved through them in Jesus name. I pray amen.

Well, thank you so much, Dr. Daniel King, you have impacted my life so much in your teaching. I would not know how to do my crusades without you. So thank you.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:15):
What’s really unique about your ministry is that you started out being perfect. You played the part of Jesus. Tell me about that and how you played the part of being Jesus. Well

Michael Job (01:27):
Kind of grew into it, born in Bethlehem, and then now I’m kidding. Basically I ended up working with Trinity broadcasting network TBN and I was working there since 2004. I started crucifying Jesus, but gradually I became Jesus. And the, the, the honor of that is that in between the shows, I’m an evangelist. So I wasn’t there for acting in between the shows I would go out. I would pray for the audience and just see people get saved and healed the great thing after the Christ for all nations Reinhardt, Bunky, school of evangelism. I never really saw people healed before that. And he said, Friday, you start your ministry. And I went back to work and on Friday, like 40 people got healed was in downtown Orlando. A deaf person got healed and every single day, since then in 2013, I saw people get physically healed in the park between shows. It was really awesome to see what Jesus will do. If you just step out

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:25):
What a tremendous experience you played, the part of Jesus acting, but then you actually got to do what Jesus did. And that’s, what’s really amazing is that as believers, we can actually do what Jesus did. Jesus prayed for the sick and saw them healed. And Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever followers of Jesus can go pray for the sick and Jesus proves that he’s alive and, and heals them. And so it’s tremendous, but you have a tremendous heart for evangelism, and you’ve really got connected with Christ for all nations ministry of Daniel Kolenda. And you’ve been doing evangelism with them. I remember that you were in some of the training sessions early on that I got to teach in. And then you took that training and went to Africa and started preaching. Tell me some of what God did there while you were in Africa.

Michael Job (03:18):
Yeah. You first taught us in 2018 and it was in port Harcourt, Nigeria. And through your training, we were able to captivate the audience’s attention all the way throughout the message, which was awesome and amazing. We saw many people give their lives to the Lord. After that, we went to Togo, we went to NACUBO Kenya. We went to Abbey, Yokota, Nigeria, and then Tanzania this past fall and just seeing hundreds of thousands. And it’s not an exaggeration because we would go to schools and we would see like 2000 students just in one school, give their life to Jesus and totally surrender. And I love a lot of the principles that, that you gave us in capturing their attention throughout the message, how to work with the translator. So important in a foreign country. A lot of the principles that you put forth in our lives still remain to this day. And I couldn’t thank God enough for you. So

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:10):
And so in some of these different countries, you, you’ve got to go into some of the different schools and you would preach the gospel. There, you have a great way of just capturing the attention of the children. Kind of walk me through what that looks like. Like what would you say if you went into a school and you wanted to lead a group of children to Jesus, how would that go?

Michael Job (04:32):
Well, I, I mean, Bo basically all of the, all of the teachers get the students to come together and then we, we just give a quick, hello, it’s a very short time. We do a quick gospel message. That’s easy to understand for kids, give them an opportunity. Then they get the opportunity to receive the gift of the Holy spirit. And we end them with a song and it’s wonderful. We also do truck preaching and I’ve done some crusades since then, actually the first time that you taught us and how to do crusade ministry, I was going to Poland right after that. And I couldn’t thank God God enough, because I was like, you taught us exactly what we needed to do. And then I used it in Poland and I worked in Poland. The word of God works, no matter where you go, you preach it. God will work.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:20):
Amen. And so then I remember one time I showed you like a little sticker with three circles on it and it’s called the three circle method of a witnessing. Oh, there you have it right on the back of your, your, your cell phone. And so you printed it and you’ve got Michael jo.org on there. And so how’s that been going? It does it, does that work to help lead people to Jesus?

Michael Job (05:41):
Yes. there’s a few ways that I try to train people and how to reach a harvest for Christ. I love training in the Evangel cube, but it’s kind of expensive in this. I’ve found very effective in every single city in Poland that I went to, I do evangelism trainings and we were able to print this out and give it to every single person, including in Africa, big, bigger churches. Every person gets a sticker and we practice on sharing the gospel with this sticker. And one of the first times I used it here in Orlando, it was with a smaller group, a home Bible study by Daniel Merani Chenko. And the wonderful thing is, is that right after that, the students went out sharing the gospel. There was a, there was, there was a, a girl that never shared the gospel before. She just shared the simple, simple sticker with a pastor’s son who never received Christ. And he received Jesus 19 years old receiving Jesus. The first time a pastor son, the pastor must’ve been praying for ever and ever, and a girl for the first time, the first soul ever reaches a pastor son by preaching the gospel in a very simple way. And after that, we still see many people get saved through evangelism techniques that you have taught us. So we thank you so much for

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:56):
That’s awesome. Now, just recently you were in Tanzania and you had the opportunity to do your own crusade there, but you only have like nine days to set it up from, from beginning to end. And so sometimes you can do a lot of preparation for a crusade. Sometimes you can just go and, and do it. And so that’s what you did. You went in and did it tell me what were the results of that? What were some of the things that God did at that Christmas?

Michael Job (07:19):
Well originally we were looking to do a parent outreach, the parents of the kids for the schools. And so we had one scheduled on Sunday. It was in my heart to do another one. And, and the, the scripture union who, who were working with her, they said, well, why don’t you try this other field? And originally when I saw it, I was like, no, I can’t do it. There. There’s all these drug addicts and drunks. And I prayed about it. And all of a sudden the Holy spirit came and went food. And God said, I want you to go there. Then I want you to do something. I stepped up on the ground and the Holy spirit came. And so we were like, okay, I’m going to try it. So, nine days later, we’re in the midst of our crusade where there’s several churches on board, several choirs.

Michael Job (07:57):
We took a trucks around the city. We did evangelism teams several days before the crusade, about a hundred people would get saved per day on the evangelistic teams during the crusade. It was only nine days of preparation. But we did see 435 decisions for Jesus. It was in the most dangerous part of all of Doris Salaam, a block and a half away from a Muslim training center. One of the biggest Muslim training centers in Tanzania. And it was basically a place where you see a lot of drunk addicts, drunk drunkards, and basically God took them out of the pit of hell and brought them into the kingdom of God because God was willing to speak. And we just had to go.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:36):
And, and so you even printed flyers, how many flyers

Michael Job (08:39):
Were you able to print out? It was week four for that outreach. We did 70 or 80,000 flyers. We also printed, printed personal letters in personal envelopes to 10,000 students and 10 different schools and invited the parents of the, of children to the outreach. And we even did a raffle at the end. We gave away a cell phone bicycle, and several footballs every single day to try to get people to come and bless the community.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:06):
Well, what a tremendous success that is to put it all together only nine days. And you managed to print all the flyers, send out evangelism trucks, send out evangelism. That just goes to show that God is willing to work anywhere. Anytime, if someone will just go and get started and just try to make it happen. And you, you made it happen. What a, what a tremendous blessing it is. Did you see some miracles at that event?

Michael Job (09:32):
Oh, yes. Yeah. There was one woman who was deaf in one ear. She could hear, there were several stomach tumors that were healed and all pain left their body. And they were dancing. There was one woman with a leg pain and she got healed. And other woman with the neck pain, she got healed. And there was, there was a, the first day I prayed for the sick and there was a big line coming. We couldn’t do all the testimonies because of the time, but there was a God showed up big time. There was a one precious woman. She was a Muslim, she just got saved and she got healed. So she came on and she testified of what God did in her body. And she was totally healed and went to church that very week. And we saw some of those new converts who were Muslims just yet, yesterday. They were in church, saved, expecting a miracle in church, which was wonderful.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:18):
That’s so amazing. And so you said that you did it in a place where all the drug dealers and the drunk people were, did some of the people that were addicted to drugs, did they get saved at the crusade?

Michael Job (10:30):
I’m supposing they were, I don’t really know.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:34):
Did they come, did they, did they come and listen

Michael Job (10:36):
Some well, they couldn’t help, but listen, because there was trees and they were all like hanging out there and we did our crusade right in front of it. So, so they had to listen. They had front row seats for them. So praise God for that.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:51):
Wow. That is, you’re truly doing the work of an evangelist. That, that is tremendous. And tell me over the years you’ve been developing your ministry what’s your, your website. And if people want to find out more information about your ministry, how can they find you?

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:20):
That’s awesome. All right. I want you to give an altar call. Imagine that you were standing on a field in Africa, and there are thousands of people there that are listening. You know, they’re there, it’s hot. The sun is beating down. People are thirsty and you’re trying to capture their attention and keep the, I know you’re very good at keeping people’s attention. Kind of give me like a five minute presentation of the gospel and an alter call. What would you do to help bring those people to Jesus and pretend like we’re actually out there on the field

Michael Job (11:54):
And you’re giving the altar call to them. All right. Well, if you know, God loves you. Wave your hand. Nice and high Yes. He loves you so much. I have a very, Very, very quick story. I want to share with you. See, there was a man who was very rich. He lived in this city and one day he said, I know what I’m going to do with my money money. I’m gonna buy a big house with a big bed. The man went to sleep. He heard a knock on the door. And when he opened the door, guess who was, who was Jesus? The man was amazed. He was like, Jesus caribou. Please come into my house. You can have the biggest house, the man Lentz asleep. And there was another knock this time. It was a different person. He opened the door, guests who we saw this time. It was the devil. Oh, the devil made him all mad. He gave him back pain. Oh, he gave him the pain. He gave him all this pain. The men woke up and he was mad at the Lord.

Michael Job (12:41):
He said, Lord, I’m a little mad at you. I let you in my house, in the devil’s in my house. And the Lord said, you only gave me one room. So the, he said, well, okay, I’ll give you every room. Except my bedroom. See, in my bedroom, there’s things that I do that are not right. That, that you would not want to see sex before marriage drugs, but you can have every other room the men want it goes to sleep. And there’s another knock. He opens up the door, guess who it is. Oh, it’s that devil again. And this time the devil tempts him with, with all this depression, with all these people, insulting him and been abusing him and hurting him. And the men woke up and he said, I can’t do this life anymore. And just as they said that Jesus tapped him on the shoulder.

Michael Job (13:18):
He looked around and, and Jesus said to you, didn’t try one thing hand over the keys of your house. To me, let me be the owner of the house. And I’ll let you live here around free. The man said, okay. And that night there was another knock. This time Jesus opened up the door cause he had the keys. And when Jesus opened up that door, the devil saw him and ran faster than he’s ever run. Before. The reason I tell you this story is because God doesn’t want to be in one room of your life. He doesn’t want to be in three rooms of your life. He wants to be in every room of your heart. Now, why do I talk about the Lord? Jesus? Because Jesus is the only one that came from heaven to earth for you. He’s the only one that led us sinless life for you.

Michael Job (13:54):
He’s the only one that died on the cross for you. He’s the only one that raised from the dead for you. He’s the only one that’s seated on the right hand. Throne of God, my friend, if you have sin in your life, that that devil is knocking on your door. And if you even have one sin, the wages of sin is death. One sin is enough to go to a devil’s hell, but I’m telling you one drop of the blood of Jesus is enough to cleanse you from all sin. See Jesus took your sins. He took my sins. He took your punishment. He took my punishment on that cross. His blood will cleanse you and he just didn’t die. But he Rose from the dead and he is alive. I want you to shout. Jesus Is alive. Jesus is, he is Alive today and he wants to come alive in your life. But just knowing that is not enough. You have to make a choice. Say, make a choice, make a choice. He wants to you to make a choice to receive him. Remember he is alive and he’s knocking on the door of your heart. He said, if any men will come in, he would knock and hear my and open the door. I will come in. Do you want Jesus in your life? Do you want to be forgiven of every sin? Are you willing to turn from your sins and turn in your, live your life for God? He loves you. He died for you. My question is, will you live your life for him? If you want Jesus, I want you to close your eyes. Yeah, you watching right now. We’re hearing right now. I want you to close your eyes.

Michael Job (15:11):
Now as the time of salvation, it’s not tomorrow. It’s not next week. It’s as right now, if you want to make a choice for the Lord, close your eyes, lift up your hands and say, Jesus, everyone. Shout Jesus. Come into my life. Be my Lord. Be my, be my savior. Thank you for dying for me. Thank you for dying. Thank you for raising from the dead. Thank you for raising. I surrender all of my life to you. Surrender all of my life to be my Lord and savior my Lord in Jesus name. Jesus. Amen. You just said that you are born again. You have Jesus, you are forgiven and you have the gift of heaven. Wow. That is tremendous. You are a master evangelist, Michael, that was just so captivating and what a tremendous way to share the gospel. And I know that if you were on the fields of Africa, the whole field would get saved.

The global network of evangelists was started by Luis Palau. Their goal is to identify, affirm, equip, and mobilize younger evangelists by developing a network of evangelists networks that seeks to celebrate and accelerate evangelism worldwide. Today, we’re joined by Desmond Henry. The director of the global network of evangelists.

Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. I have a special guest Desmon. Henry is the director of the global network of evangelists, brother Desmond. Thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast today.

Dr. Desmond Henry (01:21):
Thanks Daniel. It’s so great to be with you.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:24):
So I’m in Tulsa, Oklahoma, you are in South Africa and you were recently awarded a PhD in mission studies. Tell me a little bit about what you studied, where you studied and what came out of that study about evangelism.

Dr. Desmond Henry (01:45):
Yeah. Thank you for that, Daniel. I graduated with a PhD in the field of misseology from the university of Pretoria in South Africa, actually 2012, if I remember correctly. And so it’s been a little while since the study has been concluded, but I’ve, I’ve done some studies into the, the history, particularly of the Baptist movement in South Africa, its beginnings, how it’s developed and how effective churches are in evangelism and discipleship in the 21st century. And I did that primarily, obviously I taught within the Baptist seminary at that time. And and because I grew up Baptist, one such, you kind of know a little bit more about our history in the country and and, and more recently, of course how we can be effective as ministers within that particular denomination in South Africa and throughout Southern Africa as well. So it was a very interesting research project that took me on a road trip visiting probably about 80 or 85 different back sister congregations in South Africa. And they’re very diverse from like very Calvinistic and reformed on the one hand to very charismatic and spiritful than the other hand as well. And so it’s fascinating studying those different congregations and, and just seeing what God is doing in these movements throughout South Africa. So it was a great learning curve and I’m so glad I did it. I’m pled to, it’s done. Phd studies are not always easy, right? Yeah.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:23):
I agree. I graduated a couple of years ago with my doctorate of ministry from oral Roberts university and it was good going through the process, but I am glad it’s done to praise the Lord. So while you were studying and then before and after, you’ve also been very involved in, in planting churches and pastoring churches and in ministry and churches, you’ve always had a passion for evangelism. Where did that passion come from? How did that develop in your life?

Dr. Desmond Henry (03:55):
That’s a, that’s a great question. Daniel. I remember being a kid probably seven years of age, standing on the sidewalk in a city called Florida in Johannesburg. Can you believe it? We have a Florida here and, and this big bus came past and the driver stops right next to me and then asked me, Hey, young man, do you want to come to church? And what was particularly interesting about that experience because I’d never been to church before. And this, this bus driver was was nonwhite in, in South Africa. And those were during the, the, the days of apartheid in South Africa. And so it was very unusual for you know, to have a, in nonwhite best driver. And so I was really curious, like, what, why is this happening? You know, what is this got to do with church? And, and why does the church suddenly look very different to, to what you know, society does in general.

Dr. Desmond Henry (04:51):
And and his name was Willy and incidentally. He actually comes to the church that we pastor and we helped appliance a couple of years ago in Johannesburg now. And it was just such a wonderful experience that just catching up with him a little bit and and just hearing, you know, how he, he kind of served the board in, in ministry, but that was his deal back then in the early nineties or late eighties rather he served as the best driver and he brought a number of children to Sunday school back then as they called it. And I gave my life to the Lord at a young age and really had amazing mentors in my Christian faith. And, and that was probably what led me to become more evangelistically minded, I guess, is because that was the culture that I was brought up into our pasta moments, Schaffer.

Dr. Desmond Henry (05:43):
I was very missionally minded. He loved serving the community. He took me on, on mission trips and, and he really encouraged me in that way. And so I started my first church plant with a former rugby player, a national rugby player called Johnny Bookner. And we planted a church when I was, I think, 16, 17 years of age in a squatter camp, which is an informal settlement or shanty town just across the, the, from where we lived in Florida. And we, we planted a church in a bar and eventually the owner of the bar came to faith and we turned the bar into a meeting hall and eventually the church grew so big that the bar close down and replant the church in its place. And so just so encouraged to see God at work. And that’s really how I became very passionate about serving the Lord in evangelism and mission at a young age.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:42):
Wow. What a great story. The bar becomes a church and hopefully everyone who was in the bar becomes a believer. So that’s wonderful. And so recently you were asked to be the director of the global network of evangelists, and I’m also part of the global network of evangelists. I’m on the council, which I’m very honored to be a part of that. So let’s talk some about the, the vision of the, the global network of evangelist. What’s that all about?

Dr. Desmond Henry (07:15):
I know we certainly are very pleased to have you as part of our, our council there. And the global network of evangelists of course, was was something that was planted the seed that was planted at the 500 celebration of the reformation in Vincent Berg, Germany, where through the Lausanne Movement, they gathered a cup about a hundred leaders from around the world in Wittenberg and Kevin Palau got to sit around the table with a number of different leaders, Rafael Anzenberger from France, Emmanuel, Chris Xera from Kenya and Emma barista from Botswana. And they spoke a little bit about what God was doing around the world. And it was the vision for GE was really spot at that time. Now, of course, the Luis Palau Association have been working collaboratively through what is known as the Next Generation Alliance for about two decades, a ministry that was started by Luis Palau to encourage and equip and mobilize younger evangelists.

Dr. Desmond Henry (08:22):
But of course, this had been primarily a North American movement, and hadn’t really seen a lot of growth around the world. And when Kevin Palau made some of these leaders, of course, the vision was to take this expression and model those around the world, including evangelists from Africa, from all over Europe, Southeast Asia, and all parts of the world to join in those, this global network that would again identify from equip and mobilize evangelists around the world. And so the vision of GNE was born a number of years ago and has gained momentum and keeps growing as we progress forward in this great vision.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:10):
Let’s talk for a moment about Luis Palau. He is a great evangelist. He was born in Argentina and has often been called the Billy Graham of Latin America. He started his ministry doing lots of crusades across central and South America, and is been very well known in Spanish speaking countries for, for many years. And then he came to the United States and started doing large festivals, using a festival model of evangelism here in the United States and, and has done tremendous work. And I’ve had the honor of going to several of Luis Palau festivals. I went to one in New York city a few years ago where he said that when he was very young, God put the dream and vision in his heart to do an evangelistic outreach in New York city. And it took almost 60 years for that dream to come to pass, but we went and he preached the gospel right there in the, the middle of New York city in, in central park and then a new times square.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:25):
It was so awesome because of course, times square has all the big television screens and, and all the advertisements. And for 30 minutes while Luis Palau was preaching the gospel, all the advertisements went away and it was just a presentation of the gospel that the thousands and thousands of people that go through times square every day could hear a clear presentation of the gospel. So, so Luis Palau is a, is a great evangelist. And in about 20 years ago started the next generation Alliance, which was the goal of that was to, to raise up evangelists. And one of the things that I really like about the, the Next Generation Alliance, the NGA was this phrase that they have, there are many expressions, but one message. And so in the, in the next generation Alliance, they have many different types of evangelists. Some of the evangelists are what people typically think of, of evangelists, you know, standing on a platform, preaching the good news, but they also have action sports evangelists that ride bikes and do bicycle tricks, and then preach the gospel as a way of attracting attention that the, the everyone comes to watch the bicycle tricks, especially the young people, but then they take it an opportunity to, to share the gospel.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:48):
And then they have musicians that are involved in, in sharing the gospel and a motorcycle trick riders and many different expressions. And, and they’ve been very open in extending their arms to evangelists and making a place for evangelists to build friendships together, and then to collaborate, working together, to do evangelistic events, which I think collaboration is such a great value to have because none of us can accomplish what God has called us to do alone. We need one another. And so I’ve done several large events in different countries where evangelists from the Next Generation Alliance have come and participated and we’ve joined hands together. We’ve linked arms together in the fundraising aspect of it, and then in the preaching in the ministering. And so I’m very grateful for the Next Generation Alliance. And now there’s been this transition from the next generation Alliance to becoming the, the Global Network of Evangelists, which, which the next generation Alliance has 700 some evangelists that are participating many of them from North America. But now the vision is to develop a network of networks that the, all the different groups of evangelists from many different parts of the world can join together, work together, be in relationship with one another, encourage one, another cheer for one another, and start to develop relationships with one another. So, so talk to me some about this, this network of, of networks and, and kind of the vision, the goal of the global network of evangelists for building a worldwide network of evangelism, people who believe in evangelism.

Dr. Desmond Henry (14:05):
Awesome. I just love the way you described this ministry and and I think you’ve captured it so well. You know, we’ve, we’ve really had a heart to see evangelists working together for the sake of the kingdom for so many years. And I think part of that comes from the reality, of course, there, the plows association is headquartered in Portland, Oregon. And so I think in, in many ways, being in Portland has shaped more of a creative mindsets and innovative mindsets around how we can effectively reach secular cities for the more Jesus Christ. And what we’re really excited about as you, as you mentioned, is is in the next three years or so launching about 50 country networks of evangelists around the world where we elevate evangelism at a national level. And, and very often going into a particular country, you will see that there are pockets of things happening in different areas, but really at a national level, will you see leaders coming together and be willing to lay aside what we call their logos and their egos,ufor the sake of pursuing ways of reaching people in their country from a national perspective.

Dr. Desmond Henry (15:25):
And so we see ourselves as coming alongside these national leaders and evangelists and, and really supporting the work that they’re doing in bringing people together. And so we would love to convene leaders around the world and, and speak through what’s happening in their country and their cities and help structure them more of a plan towards evangelistic effectiveness and further in their particular communities. And so ultimately we have to be in 150 countries but we’d really want to do some deep work in these nations, working with leaders. And so for us, it’s not about numbers, it’s about names, people, ministries, countries, bringing people together for the sake of unity and working together with those countries. And so we’ve, we’ve pursued that and continues to do so, but even national level is not probably deep enough. You need to move down into cities.

Dr. Desmond Henry (16:25):
And so we’ve selected about two to three cities in every region, and we have UN nine regions around the world where we going to be focusing in and meeting with city leaders are doing a little bit of research as well to ask them, you know, what is the temperature evangelism in this city? What’s, what’s happening. And often we find that just bringing pastors and leaders together in a particular city can have a profound impact on what happens in their particular city. So asking some key questions around what’s happening, vandalism, what resources are there that what they feel is lacking what’s some of the needs are around this and what they feel God could do that particular city and another wonderful initiative that we, that we are very focused on it right now is what we calling advanced advanced group mentoring. And so this is more on a local basis.

Dr. Desmond Henry (17:23):
We have the national, we have the city, and then we have the grassroots level where evangelists majority world evangelists are bi-vocational generally speaking. There are very few evangelists that have ministry that sustains them financially. And so they serve in business as or have a secular job or they pastor a church. And so there are a lot of pastors to revenge lists too. So we, we like to bring these groups together and we’ve got some great material, great friends at the message trust in the UK has been Ben Jack wonderful mainstream guide that allows leaders to meet once a month for about two hours to pray together, to get sharpened on the word of God, to, to speak about and, and encourage one another about what’s happening in ministry share testimonies of effectiveness and, and even allow each other to share about what projects they have going, which of you to collaborate.

Dr. Desmond Henry (18:35):
And another big part of this, this movement called advance is is accountability, very evangelist you know, develop character alongside competency and skill in, in their particular focus area. Because I think character matters a lot in, in, in, in, in how we serve the purposes of God in our generation. And so asking those deep accountability questions. And so that’s, that’s a strategy that we have, and we’ve got the grassroots level, city level national level. And we’re really excited about what God is doing in exploding. These groups. We have advanced groups meeting now in over 35 nations, we’ve translated the material it’s about nine or 10 different languages with about six or seven store to go. And it’s just wonderful seeing hundreds of these groups meet around the world. And and we’re working in a number of cities around the world

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (19:35):
I’m involved in, in several different groups of evangelists. I actually have my own group of evangelists called the, the, the soul winners Alliance. And it really came out of a desire to build relationships with other evangelists and to see how I could help other evangelists. And so we’ve had a variety of meetings here in Tulsa of gathering evangelists together. And then I’m also part of the the network of empowered 21, which is a group of Pentecostal, charismatic spirit, empowered evangelists called the Global Evangelists Alliance. But I’m also part of the global network of evangelists. And I think it’s important to paddle your canoe and many different rivers to not limit yourself to just one group of relationships or one group of friends, because what God is calling us to do in these times is bigger than what any one group can do.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (20:41):
We all need to work together and to have relationships with one another and to, to join hands. And, and I think during this time, it’s important to draw circles of inclusion and not lines of separation for too long members of the body of Christ have, have been separated over sometimes very small theological issues. But I think it’s important to, to open our arms wide and to accept people of many different expressions of the faith. And so I’m just so delighted in, in what the global network of evangelists is doing, building these, these networks of evangelists in these different countries and the advanced groups. This is going to have a significant impact on evangelism around the world, which, which it’s harvest time. People all over the world are ready to come to Jesus. If someone will just go and talk to them about Jesus. And so part of the, the mission of the global network of evangelists is, is to encourage and lift up those who have a gift of evangelism upon their lives, and then to connect them with others so that they don’t feel alone so that they feel like many of us together can, can accomplish something great for God.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (22:03):
So if someone is listening and they have a calling to be an evangelist, what are some of the things that the global network of evangelists can do to help people who have a a calling in evangelism or have that desire in their heart and how can people get connected with the global network of evangelists?

Dr. Desmond Henry (22:25):

Luis Palau has often been quoted saying you know, one evangelist, one church, one leader can only go so far, but together we can do so much more that you can rapidly capture God’s heart for us in this cultural moment, unity and the coming to all these streams.

And now here’s your host missionary and evangelist Daniel King. Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited to have a special guest with me today. His name is Ben Jack, and he is from the other side of the pond. He is from great Britain. And so we’re just so delighted to have you on today. Ben, thank you for joining me.

Ben Jack (01:15):
Oh, it’s great to be here, Daniel. Thanks for having me.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:17):
So tell me a little bit about your background in evangelism and how you got passionate about serving Jesus.

Ben Jack (01:26):
Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I became a Christian in my teenage years. I grew up in a Christian home, but it took a while for it to kind of stick in my, in my heart, in my mind that Jesus was going to be Lord and not just the kind of part of my culture, you know, and when it did finally stick, I was thinking about going off to university or college as you call it in the States. And because of this new relationship that I have with Jesus, I felt like, you know, I’m not sure if I should go to college at this time, I feel like I want to go serve the Lord somewhere. So I ended up at youth for Christ here in great Britain. And I did a couple of years with them as an evangelist reaching out particularly to young people in a high schools, we’re very privileged over here to have access to high schools, to be able to share faith religious education as part of the curriculum.

Ben Jack (02:08):
And often Christians will be invited in to teach about Christianity and other subjects as well, which is great. So we would do that, but we would use creative arts to help engage the young people. I was a DJ. And so we’d use music to get them engaged in workshops with them and music classes as well, and then invite them to concerts where they could then have a good time, but crucially hear the gospel. And out of the back of that, I then continued on and I became a DJ in the, in the club scene for a few years and was just reaching out to that challenging environment, a lot of lost and broken and hurting and needed people in that world. And just trying to be light in, in what is often quite a dark environment after doing that for quite a few years, felt like the Lord was calling me then to more specifically turn DJ concerts into you know, evangelism comp concerts is that you can’t preach the gospel while you’re deejaying in a nightclub. You can talk to the, to the bar owners and the staffing be very relational, which is great, but I really felt like I wanted to use the music as a platform for them proclaiming from the stage. So we began to do those concerts over many years, but then for the last six years I’ve been working for an organization in Manchester in the UK called the message trust where we have established this, this project called advanced, which is all about equipping and encouraging the church for evangelism.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:20):
Yeah. And you’ve had really tremendous success in great Britain raising up evangelists in, in helping to, to mentor and coach evangelists. And it’s all through the advance group mentoring guide, which I have a copy of it right here, the bright red cover, which is beautiful and I’ve gone through it, great material here. And in fact this next week I’m going to Sierra Leone and we’re going to be training some evangelists there. And so we’re taking this material with us and we’re going to put it in their hands and they’re going to be starting advance mentoring groups in Sierra Leone, which is super exciting. So, so tell me how this got started and what you’ve been doing with it.

Ben Jack (04:07):
So the founder of the organization, the message trust is excuse me, as an evangelist called Andy Hawthorne is, is well known over here in the UK for really pioneering evangelism and evangelistic opportunity, particularly in the city of Manchester, but then around the UK as well. And he, six years ago really felt that as he gets older in years, he wants it to mentor younger preaching evangelists. So he gathered 12 around himself. I was one of those and he began to mentor us once a month for a couple of hours. And it revolved around five basic principles that we would meet regularly. That’s once a month, we would sharpen at each other in what the gospel is to really make sure that we weren’t miscommunicating, that we weren’t starting to preach our own ideas or the culture of the age or anything like that.

Ben Jack (04:51):
But what is the truth of the gospel and let that come through clearly, rather than through any of our clever, you know, communication or anything else. So sharpen each other, what the gospel is, accountability, that would be Holy people who carried a Holy message. Again, not to take away the accountability of the local church or the accountability of within a marriage or something like that. But just to be another layer of accountability that particularly focuses in on things around the task of evangelism and proclaiming living and proclaiming the gospel communication was another principle that between group meetings, we communicate with each other stories of encouragement, prayer requests and things like that. And then number five was that we’d think about multiplying one day that we would also then do what you’re doing by taking this guy to Sierra Leone. And that we would think about taking on a new group of our own or encouraging others to do likewise. And so we started that one group in Manchester six years ago, and now we have a thousand or so groups in 55 countries around the world. And I think it’s simply because the, like God likes it when we prioritize his gospel and his, and his breathed upon it. And the church needs as much resourcing and help as it can get that to be faithful to what God’s called us to do.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:07):
That is absolutely amazing. I think it’s a huge miracle. What you’ve done getting evangelists together. Talk to me about why you feel it’s important for evangelists to be in relationship with one another.

Ben Jack (06:22):
Well, I think evangelists could often be wired a particular way where there’s still quite a lot of diversity within the fraternity of or the sisterhood of evangelists, but there, we can often be wired quite similarly. We can be quite a Maverick in how we approach things and, you know, always wanting to get out and a back out. And sometimes we can come become a little bit disconnected to our local church community. One of the things that advanced really seeks to do is, is create community for the evangelist to grow and thrive, but consistently points back to the local church community and says like, you don’t get detached, don’t become isolated. Isolation will actually harm your ministry rather than help it. And so I think we need to be called in to fellowship. We need to be sometimes we want to champion enthusiasm.

Ben Jack (07:09):
We want to say, yes, keep going, be enthusiastic, keep, keep going and doing what God’s called you to do, but never neglect fellowship, never neglect the preparation. That’s why we have installed in it as as the first principle regular meeting. And we say, you know, you should treat that as a secret thing, even if a good opportunity ministry wise comes up, that you’ve already got your date in the diary. How seriously are you going to take it that God can do more with you in the secret place than he can in the public place. And if you want to go serve in the public place, you need to first prepare in the, in the secret place for want of a better term. So we certainly don’t want people to neglect their responsibilities out there in the world, but we also want to take it very seriously that God wants to prepare his people for his purpose.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:51):
So some of the 12 lessons that you have here in advance are the identity of the evangelist, the message of the evangelist, the task of the evangelist, the power of the evangelist, the devotion of the evangelist. I’m seeing a theme here of everything has to do with the evangelists. So the submission of the evangelist, the character, the opportunity, the commitment, and then the, the inspiration of the evangelists. So talk to me about some of these key principles that you feel it’s important for evangelists to talk about with one another.

Ben Jack (08:27):
Well, we’re actually developing a new version of the guide at the moment that gives you three years worth of group sessions, or what you have at the moment is just the first year. And in that first year, what we really wanted to do is make sure that we were talking about the character of, of the, of the people that are called. And I think we have a lot of evangelism training and equipping that is, that revolves around method. I’m going to give you a particular tracks or a particular way of explaining me, ABC of Greg gospel. And those things are very helpful and important for us. But before we employ a method, we need to make sure that we’re, we’re going to be good messages. And I don’t mean as communicators. I mean that our hearts are right before the Lord. And if we want to do that, then we need to understand the message deeply and richly.

Ben Jack (09:13):
Again, not just intellectually, but we need to know it, it needs to know us as much as we know it. And so are we letting God actually transform us into his ambassadors? That, that we, that we would know what it is to be ministers of reconciliation, because it’s not just a title that we hold. It’s the reality of who we are when we become Jesus followers, where we’re now not going to be ministers of reconciliation into the world, simply because Jesus has told us to, we’re going to be ministers of reconciliation, because this is who we are. Now we have a new identity. It’s just what flows forth from a Jesus person. So the character stuff that we outline in that first year is very much about what if we thought a little bit more about the people that God is calling us to be in light of what his gospel is, how might that affect us for our evangelism into the world. And, you know, as Leonard Ravenhill said, any method of evangelism will work, you’ve got is in it. So how do you make sure that God’s in the mandate? You make sure he’s in the messenger. How do you make sure God’s in the message and you make sure the gospel is in the messenger. Yeah,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:11):
That’s powerful. So what’s going to come in years, two and three.

Ben Jack (10:15):
Is a reflection on the challenges and the fruit of the evangelist. So it flip-flops each month. So one month you’re looking at a challenge that there is for us as evangelism, whether it’s, you know, persecution or, or focus or something like distraction, you know, whatever. And then, and then on the other month, you’ll be looking at a fruit. So what is the fruit that comes the fruit that comes out of you personally, the fruit that comes from your effort, the fruit of relationship with Jesus. And obviously looking at honing that in a little bit on the fruit of the spirit that we read about in Galatians. And it’s kind of like trying to look at the reality that often our walk with Jesus evangelism or otherwise is, is the rough and the smooth, not the Jesus is rough. His burden is light and his yoke is easy, but outworking our faith in this fallen world, that’s, that’s rough, that’s difficult.

Ben Jack (11:01):
And so what we wanted to do in the second year was having established character and who God’s calling us to be, what does that now look like? Well, sometimes it looks very hard. These are the challenges let’s think about those. And sometimes it looks incredibly fruitful. This is what that fruit can look like. And then the third year is actually where we really open it up for more of a bespoke approach for the groups. And instead of providing pre-written sessions to cover the whole year, we provide a whole wealth of different ways that you can approach it. So that by the third year, you know, your group better than we do, you know, their different needs, you know, where everybody’s at, you can take the suite of different ways of thinking about it that we offer and potentially create your own sessions month in, month out to specifically meet needs of your and developing groups.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:49):
So if someone is interested in getting involved in a group or, or starting an advanced group, and they have a passion for evangelism, they know some other people that, that have a calling from God to be an evangelist, how would they go about getting started having one of these advanced groups?

Ben Jack (12:07):
Well, what I would say is, first of all, if you are an evangelist, then, then this absolutely could be really helpful and beneficial. You know, we, we’ve been blessed to impact and work with a variety of different types of Angeles from all over the world and hearing their feedback and of how they use it. And there’s, there’s enough flexibility within how to use the sessions. There’s a level of prescription, but there’s also a level of look, make it your own, make it work for you. We don’t ultimately care if you follow the material. We, we just want you to be helped and to develop that by God’s grace and power in fellowship with one another. So use it to that extent. And, and we seeing real fruitfulness of it, but we’re also seeing more and more men and women who don’t necessarily believe they have the calling the office of the evangelist on their life, but they certainly want to do the work of you and you think they want to be a faithful witness into the world.

Ben Jack (12:53):
And so we actually have a number of people now engaging who wouldn’t say that they’re primarily evangelists, but they do have a passion for advantages. Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:37):
What are some of the languages that are available?

Ben Jack (13:40):
So we’ve got English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French Arabic Swahili. What else have we got? We’ve got we got a couple South African languages in there. I think Amharic is, is Ethiopia is on the way if it’s not up already. So yeah, various languages, they’re all, they’re all for free. The whole thing’s free by the way as well. It doesn’t cost a penny. You just go and download it.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:10):
Wow. What a tremendous resource for evangelists? I think this really answers a big need in the body of Christ for evangelists. Just the, there, there, there is a need among evangelists to, to be together, to work together, to encourage one another. Sometimes other parts of the body don’t always celebrate the evangelist the way that evangelists would like to be celebrated. You know, sometimes I’ll go on a missions trip to another country and lots of people get saved and, and God will do amazing things. I’ll come back. And the number one question I always get is, you know, what kind of food did you eat? I was like, you know, I want to talk about all the people that Jesus saved, you know but evangelists get excited hearing about all the people that were, were saved. And so just being around other evangelists encourages me and helps me to, to be in a better evangelist and to keep the fire in my own heart. And let’s encourage evangelism in the body of Christ brother. Ben, do you have a one final thought about what Jesus is doing in the world today?

Ben Jack (15:35):
Just to encourage people and say, yeah, just encourage people to say that the, you know, we’re in some very strange days at the moment with, with COVID and all the other challenges that are associated with it. And we have plenty of challenges even before COVID came along. So this world is a complicated and strange place. And yet day by day, God is continuously revealing his glory. And I have seen more opportunity for gospel proclamation and engagement with my neighbors, with those closest to me with strangers than at any other point in my 20 year evangelism journey and my 38 year life journey. This is a moment where people are open. They’re thinking through their foundations. They are scared, they’re concerned. We in no way seek to come in and exploits the chaos. What we seek to do is come in and exalt the one who can bring peace to the chaos and through you right now, any way, shape or form feeling a bit deflated or defeated. Let me encourage you brother or sister. God wants to work in your life powerfully and he will do wonderful things. If you will simply say, here I am, Lord, I’m available. I’m willing and he can take care of the rest.
