Bang, bang! In my dreams, I wondered what the noise was. Bang, bang, bang!
Suddenly I woke up. What was the banging noise this early in the morning? Sleepily, I looked around. Within inches of my head, between the window and the blinds, was a tiny bird. The poor little guy was frantically trying to get free. During the night, the little sparrow had crawled through the little hole in my widow screen, and the sound that had woken me up was the bird trapped behind the blinds. It was flapping and banging, trying to get away.
My roommate and I jumped up and began to try to catch the bird so we could let it back outside. As we carefully reached behind the blinds, the bird exploded in our faces, flying out into the room. Desperately, it flew from side to side, up and down. It banged into the mirror and flew underneath the bed. Every time the bird sat still, we tried to catch it, but it would fly away just before we could grab it.
For fifteen minutes, we chased the bird. We tried to snag it in mid-air with a blanket, we tried sneaking up on it, and we tried to back it into a corner, but the sparrow would always get away. Finally, it flew behind some books on the bookshelf. We leaped into action and put a bucket across the only way of escape. Slowly, we pushed books in on either side of the bird until it was forced to fly into the bucket. Quickly we slammed a lid on the bucket, and the topsy-turvy chase came to an end.
We carefully took the bird to the window and slowly took the lid off. We watched as the bird flew off into the morning sun, happily chirping. It was so glad to be free from our fumbling hands.
The Bible tells us, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they?” (Matthew 6:26). This is an absolutely astounding verse! It tells us that God; the Creator of the universe, the Almighty, the all-powerful, omnipotent, Supreme Being, Lord, is intimately concerned with our day to day lives.
This verse completely destroys the Deistic model for God. Our Father is not like the proverbial clockmaker who builds a clock and then allows it to run by itself. No! He cares about every detail of the sparrow’s life. God saw the plight of the bird trapped in my room, and was concerned. If God cares for the sparrow, how much more does He care about my tests?
How much more does God care about your school loans? How much more does God care about your grades? How much more does God care about your relationships? God cares about every single detail of your life. He knows everything you do, you can not escape His glance. When you are in trouble, He is there. When you are in pain, He is there. When you are in need of love, He is available to love you. When you are in a desperate situation, He is present to help you.
I am sure the bird was upset and stressed out as it was flying about in the confines of my room. So many people fly about squawking everyday, they look trapped and helpless under the pressures of living. Know that no matter what problem you are trapped in, God will set you free.
Not one sparrow falls to the ground without Him knowing. God understands your issues and problems. You do not need to worry. God will provide for your every need. Your Daddy in heaven will make sure you have food to eat, clothes to wear, a place to live, books for classes, money for tuition, and gas for your car. The unsaved spend their lives, hectically searching after these material comforts, but your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. “If you seek first His kingdom, and His righteousness, all these things will be given to you” (Matthew 6:33). You do not need to worry about tomorrow, leave it in God’s capable hands.
“In Him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). God is the source of all our strength and knowledge. Without Him we can do nothing. With Him on our side, we can do everything. Why worry about life when God is there helping you.
Why worry about tomorrow’s tests and trials? God will help you overcome them! Why worry about your debts? God will provide! Why worry about finding a person to marry? God is watching over both of you; He will bring you together when the time is right.
God cares about you. He cares about your sorrows, He cares about your triumphs, He cares about what movies you go see, He cares about what you do to your body, He cares about the food you eat, and He cares about the friends you meet
God cared so much that he sent His only Son to die for our sins, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). God is intimately interested about every detail of our lives. Our sins sadden Him, our worship gladdens Him. God surrounds us with His presence; the entire world is dependant upon Him for life. The heartbeat of a sparrow only beats because God enables it to beat. You live because God wants you to live. If God loves and protects the sparrow, there is absolutely no reason for you to worry, because the same awesome God is watching over you.
